On June 17, Clarivate launched the set of metrics for Journal Citation Report (JCR), based on data from 2025. JCR is a report on the impact of journal citations at a given point in time, when a snapshot of the data available in Web of Science is taken and the figures are calculated.
This 2026 edition includes metrics for 22,643 scientific journals, by 113 countries, distributed across 254 subject categories, consolidating the index’s growth and expanding the representation of disciplines, countries, and publishers. According to Clarivate, the goal is to provide an increasingly comprehensive view of the global research ecosystem.
Clarivate highlights several trends based on this year’s data:
- Expansion of global participation: 521 journals received an Impact Factor for the first time, from 47 countries/regions. Of these journals, 58% are based outside the United States and Western Europe.
- Changes in the geographic origin of authors: Mainland China and the United States remain the most represented countries/regions, accounting for 48% of author affiliations.
- Representation from the Global South continues to grow. The countries/regions with the largest increases in author representation between 2023 and 2025 are mainland China (23%) and India (12%).
- Author memberships from the Global South increased by 6% compared to 2024 and by 10% compared to 2023.
The Journal Impact Factor is still assigned to all journals that meet the Web of Science quality criteria (SCIE, SSCI, AHCI, and ESCI). However, some categories, particularly in the Arts and Humanities, still do not have rankings, quartiles, or percentiles based on the JIF, in accordance with the methodological policy implemented by Clarivate in recent editions.
This year, a new magazine is being added to the 33 that are published in PoliPapers, a portal of the Polytechnic University of Valencia designed to promote open access publishing of digital scientific journals. There are now a total of 23 journals. All of these journals receive an Impact Factor (IF) and a Journal Citation Index (JCI), but 10 of them fall into categories for which the IF does not provide a ranking, quartile, or percentile.
These are the magazines from PoliPapers listed in the Journal Citation Report in 2025, arranged alphabetically by title:
