Exhibition: (SIN)PATRONES. The Construction of Female Identity Through Photography/Early Franco Era, by Blanca Matías

How are women represented through images? How is the female subject constructed through the gaze? How is identity shaped and molded in the specific context of photography? How does the image mediate between memory and ideology?

This exhibition, organized by the UPV’s Fine Arts Library, explores the visual rhetoric of Spanish women, focusing specifically on the historical period of the early Franco regime (1939–1959). It focuses on the construction, in the field of photography, of feminine archetypes and stereotypes from this period—a reality that is more complex and nuanced than one might assume.

The opening will take place on Tuesday, September 8, at 7:00 p.m. at the Fine Arts Library.

Exhibition from September 8 to 25, 2026.
