Library Gymkhana

April brought us a very special initiative! A group of students from the Master of Digital Humanities and their professor Jorge decided to pay us a visit. Being part of a polytechnic university, they could not miss the opportunity to discover how we have been transforming (and we are still working on it) the library to adapt it to the digital world we live in.

Our colleague Marta was in charge of giving them a class that, modesty aside, was one of those that you do not forget. She talked to them about things that in the scientific world are of special relevance: access to open science and how from the library we work every day so that this shared knowledge continues to grow. He also showed them all the tools and platforms that help both research staff and faculty to improve their curricula and to be more visible, for example, through the identifiers we generate for them… In short, all that invisible but essential work we do behind the scenes.

In the second part, the librarians of the afternoon shift (Elisa, Maria, Raquel and Sofía) designed a series of challenges (both individual and group) for them to discover by playing. We scattered them throughout the library as detectives in search of missions, performing actions that increased in difficulty with each achievement.

The group was very participative, curious and, above all, fun. After the challenges we had a time for questions and answers, allowing them to discover possibilities they never imagined existed in the library.

In short: we had a great time! And we are already looking forward to repeat the experience.
