Spanish language courses during the semester

The UPV offers Spanish as a second language classes as complementary training for its exchange students (free of charge). These courses are not accessible to other types of international students who are not mobility students accepted through bilateral agreements (international degree students, Erasmus traineeships, etc., visiting students / freemovers, etc).

Duration: September – end of December (final exam in January) and February – end of May (exam in June)
Credits: 4,5 ECTS (twice per week, 90 minutes each day).

Levels at the Valencia campus (*): A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1, as defined by the European Framework of Reference for Languages.

(*) The basic level A1 is only available for students from Australian and Asian partner institutions, as well as Erasmus+ KA171 students (those who receive the Erasmus+ grant scholarship from UPV, not from their home university). Level C1 is available only in the period February-June.

Levels at the Gandia campus (EPSG): A2, B1, and B2
Levels at the Alcoy campus (EPSA): B1 and B2

Accepted students will receive an invitation to take an online placement (level) test in late November/early December or late June/early July.

This UPV level test is mandatory to participate in the Spanish courses during the semester at level A2 or above. Students from Australia, Asian partner institutions, or Erasmus KA171 students who wish to join the basic (introductory) level A1 do not need to take the online test.

The result of your level according to the online Spanish will be uploaded to your online file and will determine the Spanish language classes you will be able to request. The test result will be one of the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2).

Exchange students who (during their application for admission to UPV) submit a language certificate confirming a certain level of Spanish will not be allowed to join Spanish language courses during the semester at a lower level than the level indicated in their application documents.

European mobility students are not allowed to join the basic level A1 of language courses during the semester. In order to participate in level A2, their result in the UPV online level test must show that they have a good command of the language skills of level A1. The pre-semester intensive Spanish course will not be considered as proof of having completed the basic level A1.

Registration and timetables

During the process of reconfirmation of all your semester courses (subjects/modules), in August or January, our tool for mobility students will allow you to select classes of the next level.

For example, if your online test determines that your current (completed, finished) level of CEFR is A2, our tool will allow you to select a class of the next level (B1).

Semester Spanish courses and Erasmus+ Learning Agreement

Please do not include the semester Spanish courses in your Erasmus+ Learning Agreement “Before the Mobility” during the admission phase at the UPV.

Each Spanish course has a numerical code and and name that changes depending on the semester of teaching (Semester A or Semester B), the campus, and the level.

You may include your Spanish courses in the Erasmus+ Learning Agreement “Changes During the Mobility” from September or February.
