ERASMUS GRANT+ (EU funds) – General Grant
The purpose of the Erasmus+ grant is not to fully finance the costs of a stay in the host institution, but rather to compensate for the difference in the cost of living between the home and host countries and/or help cover extra expenses, such as travel.
Erasmus+ funding from the EU is guaranteed for all students with an assigned destination, but some details of the amounts depend on the confirmation of the Erasmus+ budget that the UPV will submit to fund mobility programs for 2026-27. This confirmation is not expected until the end of July.
You will not need to submit an application to request Erasmus+ financial aid (European Union funds). The UPV central International Office will publish a call with the criteria for financial allocation and will make the decisions based on the data it has available (data from mobility activities in the AIRE portal and UPV academic databases for degree students. A resolution will be published in September (for semester A and full year mobilities) and another in December (semester B mobility activities).
Fixed part: travel allowance
It is calculated based on the distance from your UPV campus (Alcoy, Gandía, Valencia) to the city of your host university, using the European Commission’s Distance Calculator for the Erasmus program:

The UPV calculates the distance, and the grant payment requires only proof of arrival at the host institution, regardless of the actual travel expenses. No receipts or invoices are required.

(1) Since the 2024-25 academic year, the Spanish National Erasmus Agency (SEPIE) authorizes each Spanish university to set a monthly amount (within a range), so students from different universities in the same host country may receive different monthly grants.
(2) Students going to Switzerland will generally receive their grants through their host institution, not through the UPV (Swiss-European Mobility Programme grants funded by the Swiss agency MOVETIA). All procedures and payment information are provided directly by the Swiss universities. There is no “students with fewer opportunities” category in Swiss government grants.
Erasmus funding shown in the chart above will only be allocated to specific students if the Swiss university declares that it cannot allocate Movetia funding, in which case the student concerned must inform the International Relations Office of their UPV School or Faculty.
ERASMUS GRANT+ (EU funds) – Students with fewer opportunities
In accordance with the European Union’s Erasmus+ inclusion policies, an additional €250 per month will be provided to students belonging to certain groups. This additional €250 per month is also funded by the European Union.
Groups expected to receive additional support:
- Award of a general study grant from the Spanish General State Administration (AGE) or an equivalent grant from the Basque Country’s Department of Education for university studies during the 2025-2026 academic year (the year before the mobility period).
- Document certifying refugee status.
- Official disability certificate (minimum). 33% issued by the competent body of your autonomous community
Groups that may receive additional aid, depending on the total Erasmus funds allocated to the UPV at the end of July 2026:
- Large families (familia numerosa), with a valid ID issued by the competent Spanish authority
- Single-parent families (familia monoparental), with a valid ID issued by the competent Spanish authority
When and where do I need to submit documentation to receive the additional €250 per month for “students with fewer opportunities”?
As a general rule, you don’t need to submit anything. Make sure your personal details (certificate or ID of large-family or single-parent household) are up to date in your UPV official registration through the academic Services (Secretaría) of your UPV School or Faculty.
Verify the resolution of the grants when we publish it (September and December). If any information is incorrect, you will have a few days to submit an appeal.
Additional ERASMUS+ grants from other sources
Complementary grants of the Valencia Regional Government (GVA)
Every year, the Valencian Government (GVA) publishes a call for applications for Erasmus+ Grants for students enrolled in universities in the Valencian Community.
Students do not need to take any action. The UPV applies for the grant on behalf of all students with an Erasmus+ placement (long-term mobility). If you are awarded the grant, we will add a new financial allocation to your AIRE (Integrated Student Registry) record, and you will receive an additional payment.
IMPORTANT: These grants are only for undergraduate students and are generally awarded to a small percentage of students with an Erasmus spot.

Additional grant Santander Erasmus
Banco Santander offers 118 grants of €1,000 each for students with Erasmus+ placements for 2026-2027 (long-term mobility for studies within Europe).
Once you have been awarded a mobility placement, you will receive information on how to apply. The process involves submitting two applications: one through a specific call for applications on AIRE (UPV intranet), and a second application through the Banco Santander scholarship portal.
Banco Santander sets a deadline on its portal in March/April (depending on the call for applications), so only those who obtained their Erasmus+ mobility placement in the regular November call for applications, with a placement assigned in January or February, are eligible for these grants.
A requirement for beneficiaries is to have or to open an account in Banco Santander and to receive all Erasmus grant payments in that account.
When and how are the grants paid

| The first payment of the aid (pre-financing) will not arrive until at least October if you start your mobility in the first semester or at least until February if it is in the second semester. As a requirement to receive the funds, you must have already completed all the initial paperwork. Therefore, you should plan to have enough money for the first few weeks or even months, especially if the semester in your destination country starts very early (Nordic countries). Regardless of your actual arrival date in the destination country, the progress of your online file in the AIRE portal will be paused during the summer months and will not advance beyond “Initial Documents verified by SINT”. Until the UPV knows the Erasmus budget it will receive for mobility activities in 2026-27, we will not be able to distribute the grants, and you will not be able to generate or upload the “Erasmus Grant Agreement” in AIRE. That also means that you will not upload the certificate of arrival at the host university. We will notify you by email when it becomes possible to download the Grant Agreement to move forward. |

| EXAMPLE: For a full academic year stay in Prague, an studnt is allocated Erasmus financial aid (General EU Funding Grant) for 8 months x 300€ (=2400€ ) + 309€ travel allowance. The 2709€ shown in the Erasmus Grant Agreement is a maximum amount that will only be paid in full if the student demonstrates having been in the destination country for 8 months or more (240 days). Note: The maximum number of months eligible for funding is confirmed in July-August for the following academic year, based on the Erasmus budget received by the UPV. The 8 months mentioned here are just an example. First payment (pre-financing): 1989€ 70% of 8 months of UE grant for a full-year mobility → 1680€ 100% of the travel allowance for the distance to Prague (309€) → 309 €. Final payment (balance payment at the end of your stay): The certificate of length of stay, signed at the host institution and uploaded to AIRE, indicates an actual duration of 7.8 months (a randomly invented example). The maximum grant amount you are entitled to receive is calculated based on these 7.8 months (not the maximum stated in the Erasmus+ Grant Agreement), and the remaining amount is paid in the final settlement. 2709 € -1989€ already received = 720 € You will not receive monthly payments, and there are usually no other intermediate payments, unless the financial allocation of your scholarship changes (for example, you are awarded a supplementary scholarship not initially assigned, such as the GVA supplementary scholarships or a Banco Santander scholarship assigned in the middle of the academic year due to someone else’s resignation). |
