Temporary leave for a full academic year

It is requested from the Thesis Management platform, from the menu “Elaboration phase” / “Request for extensions/dismissals”. 

Students may request a temporary leave of absence for 12 months, for the entire academic year. Applications for a full academic year can be submitted between June 1st and October 31st.

The request must be motivated (mandatory), and documentation may be attached (optional).

Applications will be reviewed first by the thesis director and then by the CAPD.

In case of CAPD approval, a 12-month temporary leave of absence will be registered, from September 1st to August 31st of the requested course. In addition, the amount of the fees will be recalculated to 0€. If fees have already been paid for that course, they will be refunded.

The cancellation implies a period of inactivity in the elaboration of the doctoral thesis, which leads to the suspension of the deadlines for the completion of the studies. For this reason, access to certain processes involving progress in the development of the thesis will be limited in the Thesis Management platform.

The withdrawal may be cancelled at any time, which will mean the reinstatement of the student on the date requested. The request is made by the student. He/she must give the reasons for the request and must indicate a date of reinstatement. The cancellation must be requested within the period of the leave. It is reviewed and validated by the School, and upon validation, the thesis director and the CAPD are informed (e-mail). The cancellation of a complete course cancellation implies the recalculation of the tuition fees for the course in question.

The system will make the necessary calculations so that, in no case may the limit of 24 months of sick leave be exceeded in total (adding full-time and temporary sick leave), as established in the Real Decreto 99/2011 regulating official doctoral studies.
