New edition of the #HiloTesis contest for doctoral students.

Contest “Your doctoral thesis in a Twitter thread: HiloTesis”. The aim of this contest is to promote the development of communication skills and scientific dissemination among PhD students and recent PhDs.

Crue Universidades Españolas, in collaboration with the Red de Divulgación y Cultura Científica (RedDivulga) of the Crue I+D+i sector, launches the third edition of the contest “Tu tesis doctoral en un hilo de Twitter: HiloTesis” (Your doctoral thesis in a Twitter thread: HiloTesis). The aim of this contest is to promote the development of communication skills and scientific dissemination among PhD students and recent PhDs from universities that are part of Crue.

To do so, they must explain their doctoral thesis in a thread of 20 tweets maximum, in a simple, accessible and attractive language. In the last edition of #HiloTesis, more than 300 people from 47 universities participated.

The three awards will have, for the first time, an economic endowment of 1,000 euros each, thanks to the funding provided by the Larramendi Foundation, whose collaboration has materialized with the signing of an agreement.

The contest: deadlines and instructions

The contest will run from 00:00:00:00 on May 1 to 23:59:00 on May 7, 2023. Once the thread has been published, the participating research trainees must register and provide the link to their thread using the following form: https://forms.office.com/e/Ah4zz8Ygpd.
Threads posted and/or registered through the form outside this period will not be taken into account.

The first tweet of the thread must quote or tag @RedDivulga, @filarramendi and @upv in an image and end with “Abro #HiloTesis”. Once the threads have been received from the participants through the form, the contest organization will forward them to the contact person at each university. Threads that do not meet these conditions will be rejected and only one thread per participant will be considered.

Each participating university will choose, within ten calendar days after the end of the contest, a finalist thread that will be sent to the organization for evaluation by the national jury proposed by RedDivulga. This jury will be composed of at least five members -one of them an expert in communication- and a representative of the Ignacio Larramendi Foundation. The decision will be made between June 1 and 7, 2023 and the authors of the winning yarns will be from three different universities.

The best UPV yarn will participate in the national phase.

Doctoral students UPV who have successfully passed at least one evaluation of the progress of their research plan, or those who have defended their doctoral thesis within a maximum period of six months prior to the start date of the competition which, remember, begins on May 1, can participate in #Hilotesis.

From among all the threads presented at the UPV, a jury formed by staff from the Doctoral School and the Communication Area will select the thread that will represent this university in the national phase of the contest. The author of this thread will also be able to present it at the VIII UPV PhD students meeting, to be held on May 25th.
