PhD in Art: Production and Research
As established by the applicable regulations, PhD training shall include, in addition to the completion of the doctoral thesis, the completion by the PhD candidate of specific and cross-disciplinary training activities.
Each training activity is assigned a number of equivalent hours. PhD students must complete a minimum of 600 equivalent hours through a range of training activities before submitting their doctoral thesis. At least 10% (60 hours) of these must correspond to cross-disciplinary training activities.
The equivalent number of hours assigned to each type of activity, together with the maximum number of hours that may be recognised, has been established by the Academic Committee of this PhD programme for its students, taking into account whether they are enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis.

Important points to keep in mind:
- Before submitting the doctoral thesis, PhD students must have completed at least 600 recognised hours of training activities, of which at least 10% (60 hours) must correspond to cross-disciplinary training activities.
- Teaching: Supervision of undergraduate and master’s dissertations by PhD students is not recognised as teaching activity.
- Recognition limit: The CAPD will not recognise additional specific activities once the compulsory 600 hours have been exceeded, except for publications in indexed journals or research stays.
- Recommended timeframe: Cross-disciplinary training should preferably be completed during the first academic year for full-time PhD students or within the first two academic years for part-time PhD students.
- Only activities for which a minimum number of recognised hours is specified are compulsory.
