All language certificates must be submitted at the time of the application.
Starting from the 2026–2027 academic year, UPV will no longer accept certificates signed by the home institution stating that the student commits to improving his/her Spanish before arriving at UPV, or certificates of ongoing (unfinished) Spanish courses.
Admission will be based solely on the language certificates submitted during the official application period.
No additional Spanish language certificates will be accepted after the application period closes (*)
(*) Exception – Faculty of Fine Arts: due to the nature of its classes, this faculty will continue to accept exchange students who upload this statement (checking the third option) with their application. Admission will be conditional until the student submits a certificate proving the required level before the semester begins.
For native students from Italy and Portugal, please refer to the section below.

a) students admitted to carry out a TFG/TFM in English, a research project etc.
b) ENHANCE alliance students nominated for “ENHANCE Thematic Pathways”.
c) exceptional cases approved by each of the UPV schools/faculties for certain partner universities.
Native students from Italy and Portugal
ATTENTION: The information in this section does not apply to students currently enrolled in Italian or Portuguese institutions if they are not Italian or Portuguese nationals.
General remarks:
- Only a few full degree programs at UPV are taught entirely in English. Most English-taught courses are individual units from programs mainly delivered in Spanish. Some courses are taught in both languages (different timetable choice).
- English courses (subjects/modules) are available to both UPV degree students and incoming exchange students, but UPV students always enroll first.
- Availability of English courses is limited. Priority is given to students from regions where the native language is not closely related to Spanish (unlike Italian or Portuguese).
- Native speakers of Italian and Portuguese are expected to enroll in courses taught in Spanish, even if they haven’t formally studied Spanish before applying.
- During application and pre-arrival, students should plan a study program with courses in Spanish. Enrollment in some English-taught courses may be possible later, but only if there are available spots, which can only be confirmed during the registration period at the start of each semester.
Requirements to enroll in courses (subjects/modules) or projects in Spanish
There is no formal requirement for Italian or Portuguese native speakers.
If you do not have a formal language certificate, you must at least upload the self-statement provided below. This will give you access to the majority of our courses taught in Spanish, except for a few restricted master’s programmes in some Schools, which require a more official B2 Spanish certificate.
