At present, and unlike what happens in Bachelor’s and Master’s studies, there are no national public scholarships to finance enrollment in doctoral studies.
There are so-called pre-doctoral contracts, which are employment contracts for the completion of the doctoral thesis and training within a research group of the Universitat Politècnica de València. These contracts are awarded in annual competitive calls, which are managed in each case by the institutions that call for them.
Four varieties are distinguished, depending on the agency that finances these contracts:
1.Predoctoral Contracts of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities: Grants for the training of university professors (FPU).
Conditions of the aid (approximate information obtained from previous calls):
- The grants will have a maximum duration of four years
- The amount of the aid will be 1,151.97 euros the first two years, 1,234.25 euros the third year and 1,542.82 euros the fourth year.
- Tuition and housing assistance.
- Teaching assignments: mandatory minimum 90 hours and a maximum of 180, maximum 60 hours per year.
2.Predoctoral Contracts of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities: Grants for pre-doctoral contracts for the training of doctors (Former FPI).
Observations: for this type of aid, the Ministry attaches to the call for proposals a list of projects for which interested parties may apply.
Conditions of the aid (information obtained from previous calls):
- The grants will have a duration of four years.
- The amount of the grant will be 17,785 euros per year, with a fourth year if postdoctoral of 19,000 euros per year.
- Tuition and housing assistance.
- Teaching assignments: may collaborate up to a maximum of 60 hours per year, 180 hours total maximum
3.Predoctoral Contracts of the Generalitat Valenciana (GVA), Consellería de Educación (Department of Education)
Conditions of the aid (approximate information obtained from previous calls):
- Duration: 3 years
- Short stays in other centers: between 3 and 9 months.
4.Predoctoral Contracts of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (FPI-UPV)
Conditions of the aid (approximate information obtained from previous calls):
- Duration: 3 years (exceptionally a fourth year financed by the research structure)
- Endowment:
- a. 16127.59 euros gross per year during the first two years of the contract.
- b. 1,7279.56 euros gross per year in the third year of the contract.
- Teaching assignments: 60 hours per year, maximum 180 hours
