Cross-curricular and Specific Training

Training activities for PhD students

According to the applicable regulations, doctoral training shall include, in addition to the completion of the doctoral thesis, the performance by the doctoral student of specific and cross-curricular training activities. Each of them will have a valuation in equivalent hours, in such a way that for the presentation of the doctoral thesis, in general, it will be an indispensable requirement have passed at least 600 hours of which at least 10 percent (60h) will correspond to transversal training courses.

Cross-curricular Training

The cross-curricular training activities can be done by passing the courses offered by the Doctoral School. However, if training courses of this type (scientific documentation, scientific communication, research methodologies…) have been taken previously, the recognition of these courses can be requested to the Doctoral School.

The transversal training courses offered through the Doctoral School will be taught in online format and will not entail additional fees to those of enrollment.

Registration for the courses will be done through the “Thesis Management” application. Courses are scheduled to begin in January and registration will be open from September to December.

Students who are taking complementary training credits within any of the programs may participate in the transversal training activities.

Specific Training

The specific training activities are those associated with the development of the doctoral thesis, such as presentations at conferences, published articles, participation in projects, stays in other laboratories … Each program has defined the criteria for the assessment of these activities in its verification report (see the Program’s website).

In order to evaluate the specific training activities, the doctoral student must enter them through the “thesis management” application accessible from the UPV Intranet. The thesis supervisor will value them in equivalent hours, also from this application and, finally, the academic committee of the program will validate them with the definitive hours, according to the criteria established in the program’s verification report.

When the activity has been done in collaboration with other researchers (co-authorship), the student shallfill in the corresponding formdeclaring the % of participation for each one.

In the case of research stays in other institutions, the student must have the prior approval of both the thesis director and the Academic Committee (also to be requested through the Thesis Management application).
