PhD in Biotechnology
As established by the applicable regulations, PhD training includes, in addition to the completion of an original research project presented in the form of a PhD dissertation, the completion of specific and cross-curricular training activities.
Each training activity is assigned an equivalent number of hours. PhD students must complete a minimum of 600 equivalent hours through a range of training activities in order to submit their PhD dissertation. Of these, at least 10% (60 hours) must correspond to cross-curricular training activities.
The equivalent hours assigned to each type of activity, as well as the maximum number of hours that may be recognised, are determined by the Academic Committee of this PhD Programme.
When an activity is carried out in collaboration with other researchers (co-authorship), the student must complete the corresponding Co-authorship assessment form, indicating the percentage contribution of each co-author.

Please note the following:
- Please note that, as a general rule, for all activities carried out in collaboration with other researchers, applicants must upload to the Thesis Management application, together with the relevant supporting documentation (e.g. a copy of the publication, conference paper, or certificate of attendance), the co-authorship statement signed by all PhD candidates (IF) at UPV and by at least one senior researcher (IS), preferably the PhD supervisor.
- The level of co-authorship (Levels 1, 2 or 3, as specified in the co-authorship statement) will be used to determine the proportion of the maximum number of equivalent hours awarded for each activity (100%, 50%, or less than 50%).
- Information relating to each activity must be uploaded to the Thesis Management application under the Specific Activities section. In addition to the required supporting documentation, a report from the PhD supervisor must be provided indicating the estimated number of equivalent hours assigned to the activity and the justification for this allocation. This report may be entered directly in the Comments section of the Thesis Management application (under Specific Activities). For publications indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI), the report must also specify the journal quartile and its impact factor. The PhD supervisor’s assessment will be based on the evaluation criteria and equivalent hours indicated in the table above.
