About Us. Work Experience Unit

The ETSINF Internship Unit reports organizationally to the School and functionally to the Integrated Employment Service (SIE) under the Office of the Vice President for Employment and Continuing Education.

The SIE is the body responsible for promoting and managing employability initiatives to improve the job placement of UPV students and graduates. Within this body is the Work-Experience Section, which is supported by and works in collaboration with the Work-Experience Units (UPE) at each campus.

At UPE, we provide support and guidance to companies in posting internship opportunities and formalizing these opportunities. We also assist students in improving their employability, finding companies where they can complete their internships, and addressing the academic implications of these internships.

What Are Internships? External Internships

  • Internships or external academic placements are educational activities undertaken by college students and supervised by the universities.
  • The goal is to enable students to apply and build upon the knowledge acquired during their academic training, promote the development of skills needed to perform professional activities, enhance employability, and foster entrepreneurial skills.
  • They can be carried out at both the national and international levels in:
    • Companies
    • Public Institutions
    • Nonprofit foundations and associations.
    • Units within our university (departments, services, institutes, etc.).

Types of Internships and How They Are Incorporated into the Curriculum

These may include:

  • Curricular: Credit recognition in the Electives module (if the degree program includes electives).
  • Extracurricular Activities: Note on the Academic Transcript

As for its production:

  • In-Person
  • Online
  • Mixed

Benefits and Advantages of Internships

  • Gaining Pre-Employment Experience
  • Gaining experience in the hiring process
  • It facilitates entry into the workforce
  • Practical application of the knowledge acquired
  • Promotes entrepreneurship
  • Provides a professional network
  • A modest financial aid grant for educational expenses, provided by the company.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled for the current academic year and throughout the entire internship period.
  • Not having earned a degree, nor meeting the requirements to do so—that is, not having completed 100% of the degree program’s credits.
  • Students who plan to submit their TFG/TFM in September of the following academic year—using this year’s tuition—must complete their internships by August 31, as they will no longer be considered students in the following academic year. For example: If you are enrolled for the 2025–2026 academic year and have registered for your TFG/TFM but will defend it in September 2026, you will only be able to complete your internship until August 31, 2026, because you will not be a student for the 2026–2027 academic year, even if you defend your thesis in September 2026. For any questions, please contact the internship office.
  • In the case of curricular internships, you must be enrolled in the credits you wish to have recognized:

Enrollment and/or withdrawal from fieldwork. Enrollment adjustments

Curricular internships are formalized by enrolling in the “course” titled “External Internships.”

The following possibilities can be considered:

Registration for Fieldwork

Registration is open throughout the academic year and is completed by sending a Policonsulta to the school’s Registrar’s Office, in the MATRÍCULA group, selecting the “ENROLLMENT CHANGE” type and specifying that you wish to enroll in the credits listed in the agreement you have signed and submitted to the Work-Study Unit (upe_inf@etsinf.upv.es).

Withdrawal from External Internships

Requests to drop credits for external internships are submitted via the intranet at Virtual Office>Requests>Withdrawal Request>Partial Withdrawal>Other Type of Withdrawal.

Enrollment Adjustments
  • Withdrawal from External Internships and Registration for Elective Courses
  • Withdrawal from Elective Courses and Registration for External Internships

Both adjustments are made via the intranet at Secretariat virtual>Applications>Withdrawal Request>Partial Withdrawal>Adjustment of Fieldwork.

Deadlines

Internship period.

From September 1 through August 31 of the following year.

At the latest—provided the student has not yet graduated—external internships may be completed through August 31. Once the requirements for graduation are met (submitting the TFG/TFM and having all credits evaluated), the conditions for completing an external internship are no longer met, and the agreement must be terminated.

Submission of Documentation

The deadline for submitting the agreements is 10 days before the start date of the internship.

By email to practicas@etsinf.upv.es

For internships abroad, 30 days in advance. Contact the Internship Unit.

Special Times of Year: Christmas, Fallas, and Holy Week

Check with the Work-Study Unit to find out when to submit agreements with a start date during or one week after these periods.

Summer Vacation

The month of August is considered a non-working month for processing internship paperwork; therefore, an internship whose start date falls within between July 26 and September 10, the deadline for submitting documentation is July 16.

Recommendations and Considerations

1. Carefully read the terms and conditions set forth in the educational cooperation agreement before signing it.

2. Agree with the company on the following terms:

  • Schedule
  • Start and end dates
  • Daily/Weekly Commitment
  • Tasks to Be Completed
  • Economy Bag

3. Do not begin the internship until the student has confirmed that the agreement has been received by the ETSINF Internship Unit in a timely and proper manner..

4. Discuss any issues related to the internship with your advisors or the Internship Unit as soon as they arise.

5. The company must facilitate the student’s attendance at exams or specific mandatory academic activities, although the student is obligated to inform the company of these specific circumstances well in advance and to complete the number of internship hours specified in the formal documentation within the dates indicated therein, and to negotiate with the company making up those hours.

6. Recommended weekly limit:

  • 20 hours per week during the academic term
  • 40 during the non-instructional period.

7. Students who plan to submit their TFG/TFM in September of the following academic year under the enrollment status of the current academic year must complete their internships by August 31, as they will no longer be considered students in the following academic year. For example: If you are enrolled for the 2025–2026 academic year and have registered for your TFG/TFM but will defend it in September 2026, you may only complete an internship until August 31, 2026, because you will not be a student for the 2026–2027 academic year, even if you defend your thesis in September 2026. For any questions, please contact the internship office.

PROCEDURE

Company Search

First, register in the SIE resume database. Here.

You have the following options for finding a company:

  • Through the DIRE website:

Under “ACCESS TO INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES,” you can view and apply for internship opportunities at your school and for your degree program:

  • Through the MiUPV mobile app:

Through the Integrated Employment Services section, you’ll have access to the DIRE job and internship portal.

  • Self-nomination:

You can look for a company on your own, even if it isn’t listed on the internship portal. There are many companies that would like to collaborate with the UPV.

Formalization of the practice

The internship is formalized with the signing of the Educational Cooperation Agreement.

1. The student and the company agree on the basic terms and conditions for the internship:

  • Schedule
  • Start and end dates
  • Daily/Weekly Commitment
  • Economy Bag

2. Student seeking a UPV tutor to evaluate their internship:

  • Subject to prior approval, any ETSINF professor may serve as a practicum supervisor.
  • There is also a list of faculty members at the School who have volunteered to supervise internships at companies, which can be accessed through the “Calculate Your Internship” tool. Click the link below to view the Student Handbook; page 5 explains how to proceed. Handbook here:  https://www.sie.upv.es/meta1b/Manuales/Manuales.html
  • In either case, it is recommended that you contact your advisor to obtain their approval.

3. Generate the educational cooperation agreement in “ Calculate Your Internship“. It is an app where you simply enter the agreed-upon information and other conditions related to the practice. Manual.

See the example at this link:  https://www.upv.es/contenidos/siepract/download/18719

4. The agreement must be signed ELECTRONICALLY (using an electronic certificate) by all participants:

  • Company Representative
  • Company Mentor
  • UPV Tutor
  • Student

Government website for verifying electronic signatures:

https://valide.redsara.es/valide/ejecutarValidarFirma/ejecutar.html

5. Sending the agreement to practicas@etsinf.upv.es, with the following in the subject line: “New Agreement – Start Date DD/MM/YYYY”. The deadline for submitting the agreements is 10 days before the start date of the internship.

6. If the internship is part of the curriculum, the student must already be enrolled or enroll immediately to earn the credits. Instructions at  Registration for Fieldwork (PE) in the section Requirements.

7. The company will enroll the intern in Social Security from the beginning to the end of the internship.

See the guidelines at this link:  https://www.upv.es/contenidos/siepract/normativa/

Once the agreement has been processed, both the company and the student will receive a copy signed by the Vice Rector for Employment, Continuing Education, and Languages.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Internships must be paid: a minimum rate of 5 € per hour for the 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 academic years, in accordance with approved and published regulations.
  • They may be conducted in person or remotely. If they are remote, in the section of the agreement titled “Location of the Internship,” you must indicate “REMOTE FORMAT.”
  • The Work Experience Unit must receive the electronically signed agreement at least 10 days before the start date.

Be careful with the “As soon as possible” button next to the start date that appears in “Calculate Your Internship.”

If you click that button, the system only allows one or two days to draft the agreement and obtain the signatures of the guardians, the company representative, and the student. In our experience, at least three or four days are needed. We recommend allowing more time.

(*) For internships abroad, the documentation must be submitted 30 days before the start date. In addition, you must purchase private insurance. See this link. Contact the Work Experience Unit – ETSINF.

In order to complete the TFG/TFM during the internship, the UPV supervisor designated in the internship agreement must be the same as the UPV supervisor listed on the official approval document for the TFG/TFM degree.

Completion and Evaluation of the Internship

Once the internship is over, both the student and the company mentor receive an email informing them that they must complete the evaluation reports (by filling out a questionnaire).

Once completed, the UPV advisor will evaluate the internship:

  • If it is part of the curriculum, you will receive a numerical grade for the externship.
  • If it is an extracurricular activity, the evaluation will be
    • Eligible: This will appear in the student’s academic record under the “Additional Information” section and will be noted on the European Diploma Supplement.
    • Not Acceptable

It is recommended that you upload the reports immediately after completion of the internship, even if it has been terminated or if a continuation of the initial internship is underway. All agreements must be evaluated.

In addition to the notification email, students and UPV advisors can access the evaluation tool through the UPV intranet under the Services tab > Integrated Employment Service > Company Internship Evaluation.

Internship Certificate

Once an internship has been completed and evaluated, all parties can obtain a certificate of participation in the corporate internship program. Click here.

Extension. Amendment. Cancellation/Termination.

Extension or renewal of internships that have already begun.

If the company and the student are interested in extending the internship, a new internship agreement must be submitted.

If you plan ahead, it can be held immediately following the first agreement.

Amendment to an Existing Agreement

Once an agreement has been entered into, the following initial terms may be modified:

  • Total hours (provided that these hours have not yet elapsed).
  • Economy Bag
  • Advisors. You can replace or add a co-advisor.
  • Training Project

The start and end dates of the internship cannot be changed. To make these changes, you must terminate the current agreement and arrange for a new one.

The  modification Once completed and signed with the electronic signatures of all participants, it will be sent by email to the Internship Unit ( practicas@etsinf.upv.es), at least 10 days before the desired change. Change Request Form here.

Termination or Cancellation of an Agreement

In some cases, internships must be terminated when there is a valid reason.

In that case, you must send the termination document completed and signed with the electronic signatures of all participants in the Company Internship Program ( practicas@etsinf.upv.es). Termination Document here.

We recommend that you send it within 7 calendar days.
