The Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and the company Víctor Tormo S.L. have formalized the creation of the BECOMU Chair–Transparency in Construction, with the goal of promoting a new model of relationships in the construction sector based on trust, collaboration, and transparency.
The signing ceremony was attended by José E. Capilla, president of the UPV; Fernando Cos-Gayón López, director of the new Chair; and Ignacio Gil, director of the Employment and Corporate Chairs Division. Representing the company were Víctor Tormo, president of Construcciones Víctor Tormo; Antonio Vela, manager; Joaquín García, director of Building and Civil Engineering; José Luis Bañuls, director of Production; as well as guest consultants Francisco Francés (IDOM), Pedro Júdez (LeanIPD), and Jesús Bayarri (Vivare).
The Chair, affiliated with the Higher Technical School of Building Engineering (ETSIE) and endowed with an annual budget of 35,000 euros, aims to promote a paradigm shift in the field of construction. Its goal is to foster the restoration of mutual trust among the various stakeholders in the sector, promoting more open, collaborative, and common-good-oriented working models.
Training New Generations of Professionals
Its areas of focus include the research, outreach, and training on methods and tools that promote transparency and cooperation in the development of construction projects. The Chair will place special emphasis on training new generations of professionals so that they may develop an ethical and sustainable approach to construction.
The activities will take place primarily at the ETSIE, although other centers, departments, and institutes at the UPV may participate depending on the projects that are launched. Planned initiatives include collaboration on master’s programs and continuing education, the offering of scholarships and academic awards, the organization of conferences, seminars, and workshops, and the promotion of national and international meetings that contribute to the dissemination of best practices in the field of transparent construction.
With this new chair, the Polytechnic University of Valencia is reinforcing its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and collaboration between the academic and business worlds, moving toward a more ethical construction sector focused on the common good.
