A coffee with… Puri Lisón

We talked with Puri Lisón Párraga, professor at ETSEAMN, researcher at the Institute of Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology (IBMCP-CSIC) and new director of the Master in Plant Cellular and Molecular Biotechnology.

  • Bon dia, first of all we would like to know you better so we ask you to introduce yourself to your colleagues, who is Puri Lisón?

I am a PhD in Agricultural Engineering, professor in the Biotechnology department and researcher at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Plants. My academic, teaching and research activity has been developed mainly at the Universitat Politècnica de València.except for a brief postdoctoral period at the Regne Unit.I like to enjoy people, and I have had the good fortune to have many good people.in the family, personal and professional spheres.

  • Currently, you have been appointed new director of the Master in Cellular and Molecular Plant Biotechnology, can you explain us what it consists of?

The master’s degree is taught in the Institut de Biologia Molecular i Cel-lular de Plantes (IBMCP) is a joint center between the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and the Consell Superior d’Investigacions Científiques (CSIC), The teaching of this course involves the participation of research personnel from both institutions.

The master’s degree aims to train specialists in the key processes of plant organisms for the generation of more productive and higher quality crops.

Tea with to train specialists who are able to apply the knowledge acquired on the molecular basis of the key processes of plant organisms -such as growth, development and the ability to adapt to the environment.for the generation of crops that are more productive and of higher quality.

The Master’s students develop the TFM in IBMCP research lines that aim that the scientific knowledge generated leads to technology transfer..

  • What impact does the master’s degree have on the scientific field?

Studentsdevelop Master’s theses in the IBMCP’s research lines.. This research, in turn, aims to turn the scientific knowledge generated into technology transfer, to generate strategies for agricultural improvement, to increase the nutritional quality of plants, as well as to obtain products of pharmacological and industrial interest of high added value. And all this from a sustainable and quality production.

  • And on labor market insertion?

Master’s graduates have excellent training in plant biotechnology that allows them to enter the business world, doctoral programs, or even both, through the so-called industrial doctorates.

In our laboratory we are interested in understanding the defense mechanisms of plants against biological stresses..

  • Develop your scientific career at the IBCMP UPV, what are your research lines?

In our laboratory we are interested in understanding the defense mechanisms of plants against biological stresses. In particular, we study the molecules involved in the defensive signaling processes that occur both within the plant (intra-plant communication) and between plants (inter-plant communication).

  • Ending in a more personal and distant perspective, what slogan or phraseand serve as an inspiration?

In passing through life, try to sow and not to erode.

  • Will Elon Musk end up with Twitter or will the opposite happen?

The truth is that I would not know how to answer.

  • If Twitter disappears, will you switch to Mastodon?

I tried to adapt myself to the mig, so I suppose I would go to Mastodon or similar. Even though estic intentant mantenir una dieta digital, o almenys dejuni intermitent.

  • La pizza, amb o sense pinya?
