A coffee with… Constanza Rubio

  • Good morning, first of all we would like to get to know you better so we ask you to introduce yourself to your colleagues, who is Constanza Rubio?

Constanza Rubio is aPhD in Physics from the UPV, linked to this school for more than 30 years. She is a woman who enjoys teaching and her research work is related to wave behavior. Currently, together with my team, I am researching on wave-crop interaction through remote sensing and on environmental acoustics and reuse of agri-food by-products to obtain acoustically competitive materials.

In all facets ofmy professional career I have always put passion, desire, enthusiasm and no little effort into my work.to carry out both my teaching, tutoring and mentoring work, as well as management, being part of the school’s management team since 2015.

One of my greatest motivations has been to weave, promote and maintain collaboration networks, both national and international, that contribute to the visibility of our School.

In the same way, I have carried out my research work and transfer, dissemination and collaboration with society in general and Valencian society in particular. One of my greatest motivations has been to weave, promote and maintain collaboration networks, both national and international, that contribute to the visibility of our School.

  • What tasks will you develop in the new direction of the ETSEAMN?

As School Director I am going to represent her at the UPVto encourage and promote initiatives in the School that become a reference among the Schools in our field and that help to make visible and promote the PDI, the PAS and the students of the ETSEAMN and to promote and coordinate the implementation of the Strategic Plan of the UPV in our School;

In addition,I will lead with responsibility the School’s projects in the academic and social fields. The School is also responsible for the communication with the Departments that are directly linked to the School.

“Throughout its more than 60 years of history, the ETSEAMN has been a point of reference for Valencian society”.

Leading and establish coordination processes between the different Sub-Directorates and between them and the PAS.and to ensure that the School has the necessary administrative and service personnel for its proper functioning will also be functions that I will assume.

  • What is the impact of ETSEAMN on Valencian society?

Throughout its more than 60 years of history, the School has been a benchmark for Valencian society. The broad and solid training received by the students who have been educated in our School has allowed them to be an active part not only of science but also of culture and society. Our school has produced people who are in the regional government, in EU commissions, in management teams of research centers of international prestige and we have researchers in the highest positions of scientific impact rankings.  But also in the School there are, both among the student body and among the faculty and administrative and service staff, people who have written successful books, who make scientific dissemination, who design apps, who actively participate in cooperation projects, who promote sports and cultural events…

“I want a School for and by the people who work and/or study in it, close, but at the same time innovative and with both national and international projection”.

In short, people of great value to society in the academic, scientific, technical, social and cultural fields.. In the university environment there are many people from our School who have held positions of responsibility in the University Government, which has allowed them to participate in the decision-making processes and thus contribute to the improvement of both the UPV and our society. We have a great power of impact or influence on Valencian society, which on the other hand gives us a great responsibility in our daily work.

  • Currently, what is your biggest challenge at the professional level?

As director of the School I want to achieve the integration of all the groups that are part of it. A School by and for the people who work and/or study in it, close, but at the same time innovative and with both national and international projection.A school of academic excellence and that, as I mentioned above,to be a reference both inside and outside the UPV.

Thinking about the challenges to be addressed immediately,We are already working on the adaptation of the qualifications to Royal Decree 822/21 and the renewal of the international accreditations ABET and EUR-ACE.

“Alone we go faster, together we go further.”

  • Going into a more personal and relaxed side, what motto or phrase inspires you?

Well, there are several that move me, but if I had to choose, I think I’d go with“the drop pierces the rock” y“Alone we go faster, together we go further.”

  • Will Elon Musk kill Twitter or will the opposite happen?

Who knows, what is clear is that the fights between the two sides make us all a bit saturated with so much back and forth. They will end up making us fed up with social networks.!

  • If Twitter disappears, will you switch to Mastodon?

Do you really think it’s going to go away?

  • Pizza, with or without pineapple?

Pineapple for dessert

  • In winter, socks to sleep in?

No, socks during the day.

  • Vacations, sea or mountain?

Both.We are fortunate to have the sea and the mountains nearby. The beach is relaxing, but enjoying a hike in the mountains is exhilarating.

  • Finally, coffee, black or with milk?

Coffee with milk for breakfast, during the day cut in winter and weather coffee in summer.
