A coffee with… Teresa García Hidalgo

We talked with Teresa García Hidalgo, graduate of the ETSEAMN and recently awarded with the prize for Novel Excellence in the IX Edition of the awards of the Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros Agrónomos de Levante (COIAL).

  • Good morning, first of all we would like to get to know you better so we ask you to introduce yourself to your colleagues, who is Teresa Hidalgo?

Good morning everyone, first of all, I wanted to thank you for having counted on me for this section.

My name is Teresa García Hidalgo, I am from Murcia and I am 23 years old. I studied a degree in“Agri-food and Agri-environmental Engineering”. in theOrihuela Polytechnic School of Orihuela. When I finished my degree,I decided to come to Valencia to study the Master in “Agronomic Engineering” at the UPV, which I finished presenting my Master’s final project on July 24, 2023, the same one that has led me to be awarded by the COIAL.

  • You have recently been awarded the COIAL Novel Excellence Award, what does this recognition mean to you?

It means a very valuable recognition for me.This award validates the dedication, enthusiasm and effort I have invested in my project.and drives me to continue to strive for excellence in my professional career.

The award-winning work focused on the design and implementation of a localized irrigation network in 5 trial plots covering a total area of 11 hectares, cultivated with the Coffea Robusta variety in Gabela, Angola.

  • What does the award-winning work consist of?

The work that was awarded focused onn the design and implementation of a localized irrigation network in 5 test plots.covering a total area of 11 hectares, cultivated with the Coffea Robusta variety in Gabela, Angola.

These experimental plots were divided into 15 subplots to compare production as a function of planting frame, irrigation time and dose, and type of harvesting. In addition, a network ofmicro-sprinkler irrigation in nearby greenhouses for planting coffee seedlings prior to transplanting to the final soil.

  • Who have been your director(s)?

My tutor in this project was Iban BalbastreProfessor and Assistant Director of Infrastructure and Environment of the ETSEAMN. I would also like to thank the support and guidance of my co-workers, especially Luis Cano and Clara Gea.

I would like to direct my professional career towards the engineering projects branch, with a specific focus on hydraulics or structural analysis.

  • Where do you want to direct your professional future?

My goal is to move towards the engineering projects branch, with a specific focus on hydraulics or structural calculations.I am aware that I still have a long way to go in terms of learning and experience.. Nevertheless, I take this challenge with enthusiasm and determination, willing to acquire knowledge and develop the necessary skills to excel in this field.

My greatest professional challenge is to contribute to the development of projects that promote sustainability and efficiency in the use of resources.

  • What is your biggest challenge on a personal level?

My biggest challenge at a professional level iscontributing to the development of projects that have a positive impact on society and the environmentand that promote sustainability and efficiency in the use of resources.

  • Moving on to a more personal and relaxed side, what slogan or phrase would you say?is it an inspiration for you?

“All good work is done as ants do: little by little.”

I think thatconstancy, patience and perseverance are key to achieve successful results in any task or project. Ants are known for their meticulous and persistent work in building their anthills and foraging for food. In most areas of life, significant achievements are not made instantaneously or with great leaps and bounds, but through constant and gradual effort over time. Similar to the work of ants, which advance little by little, but steadily.

  • Which social network do you find most useful?

Among the social networks, I consider thatLinkedIn is the most useful for my professional field. It allows me to stay connected with friends and acquaintances, share my academic and professional accomplishments, and keep abreast of the latest trends in engineering.

  • Pizza, with or without pineapple?

Personally,I do not consider myself a “hater” of pineapple pizza.I would prefer it without pineapple, but if given the choice, I tend to prefer it without pineapple.

  • Vacations, sea or mountain?

The proximity to the sea is a fundamental part of my life, and I cannot conceive of a vacation without sun, sand and sea. On the other hand, the mountains also have a special place in my heart. The idea of getting away from urban life, camping in the middle of nature and breathing fresh air is something I love.I could not choose one.

  • Finally, coffee, black or with milk?

Always a “coffee with milk, short coffee“. This expression has become a kind of personal sealand usually brings a smile to the faces of my friends or those who accompany me when I place my coffee order.
