A coffee with… Penélope Gutiérrez

We talked to Penélope Gutiérrez Colomer, professor at the ETSEAMN and deputy director of the “Teaching and Student Affairs” area.

  • Good morning, first of all we would like to get to know you better so we ask you to introduce yourself to your colleagues, who is Penélopé Gutiérrez Colomer?

I studied Agricultural Engineering at the UPV and completed my doctoral thesis in theValencian Institute of Agricultural Research. While I was doing my thesis, I began to collaborate in the Department of Rural and Agroalimentary Engineering (DIRA) of the UPV, giving practical classes, and I started to work as an intern. It was there that I discovered a teaching vocation that I had not recognized until then.

After finishing my thesis I joined the DIRA, where I continue my teaching and research work. I enjoy teaching, I believe we have a privileged university and work environment..

I have also performed management duties, first in the department and currently at the school, performing the tasks corresponding to the“Subdirección de Ordenación Docente y Estudiantado”.It has been a great opportunity to have more contact with my colleagues from other departments, as well as with the student body of all the degrees.I hope I can contribute a small grain of sand to make your life at school a little bit better.where we all spend a large part of our daily lives,and satisfactory.

  • What tasks will you develop in the new direction of ETSIAMN?

My fundamental task is to give a voice to the students of the school, because without students there is no school; I firmly believe that they are our greatest asset. That implies not onlylisten to thembut alsocontribute to the quality of the training they receive in our classrooms.

To help make this happen,I am involved in various tasks within managementThe main tasks were the preparation of the timetables, the revision of the teaching guides of the subjects, the coordination, together with my colleague Ana Albors, of the Integral Plan for Student Support (PIAE+)and of theAdaptation Project of the new Transversal Competences of the UPVat school; and, well, a lot ofsmall tasks related to the day-to-day life of our student body.

I believe that from the classroom and from the school management we must make students feel listened to, cared for and motivated so that they can achieve the highest academic and, in the future, professional achievements.

  • What position does ETSIAMN occupy in the UPV community?

The ETSEAMN can boast ofbeing one of the oldest schools of the UPV,and of having undergone great development and growth over the years. Currently, four bachelor’s degrees, four double degrees and five master’s degrees are offered. The contribution of our school to the richness of the UPV’s training offer is more than evident.

  • Currently, what is your biggest challenge at the professional level?

In global so continue to grow as a person and as a professional in this school that I feel at home.. Currently, my work in the deputy management as part of a team that I consider very human and professional is a great challenge for me. And from here, I would like to contribute to the students’ acquisition of a comprehensive quality education during their time at school.both academically and humanly.

I would rather make a mistake by taking a decision or a risk, than do nothing

  • Going into a more personal and relaxed side, what motto or phrase inspires you?

“If you don’t try, you’ll never know.”I would rather make a mistake by making a decision or taking a risk than do nothing. Whether it goes well or not, everything will bring a necessary learning to your life.

  • Will Elon Musk kill Twitter or will the opposite happen?

I would like to think thatno social network can kill someone.

  • If Twitter disappears, will you switch to Mastodon?

I’ll stay on Instagram.

  • Pizza, with or without pineapple?

I’m a big fan of pizza, you can put almost anything you want on it. With pineapple, fine.

  • In winter, socks to sleep in?

Well, I don’t know what to tell you…. as a rule, no socks.
