El Tragaluz Cuántico driven by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC)is a medium-length film centered on research on the photomultiplier tube. This device, in a certain way, could be likened to a window through which, depending on the direction in which one looks, one can observe the macrocosm or the microscopic world. Its “magical” character gives it the potential, through its description, to attract a general public, not particularly motivated by science.

The documentary begins by introducing us to the origin and history of light, highlighting the importance of science in society.

In the second part, he describes how the “quantum skylight” or photomultiplier tube, a widely used light detector, works, didactically outlining the quantum physics on which it is based.

The third part describes what applications this detector has in society: as the basis of telescopes that detect neutrinos, or in medicine, showing its use in the diagnosis of cancer, or in the treatment of this disease with proton therapy.

Subsidiarily, from the material recorded for the documentary (interviews with experts, synthetic images, 3D animations…) mini monographic documentaries were made, which can be presented to groups of secondary school students, with the final objective of stimulating them to encourage their scientific vocation.
