Collections of the Valencian Public Universities and Cañada Blanch 2026

The tenth edition of Collections of the Valencian Public Universities and Cañada Blanch reaches the La Nau Cultural Center with “Densities and Delays: Poetics of the Twilight“, an exhibition curated by Ricard Silvestre which can be visited at the Academia Hall from the November 4, 2026, to January 24, 2027, with free admission, under the building’s 16th-century arches.

Ten years ago, our acquisitions program was launched with a clear purpose: to foster the development of our art scene and support the galleries that bring it to life. We promote it in partnership with the University of Valencia, the Polytechnic University of Valencia and LAVAC, the industry association. This year, the project is expanding with the addition of the following as collaborators: Jaume I University, the University of Alicante, the Miguel Hernández University and the Valencian Regional Government.

“Densities and Delays: Poetics of the Twilight.”

We live surrounded by screens, algorithms, and images that are consumed in seconds. Resolution determines what is visible, but leaves little room for calm observation. In the face of this constant light, the exhibition champions shadow and opacity as a realm of freedom.

Far from secrecy, this opacity is understood as a right: to slowness, to secrecy, to doubt. That is why the works on display do not lend themselves to a quick glance. They possess a weightiness, rough surfaces, and silences that force the eye to adjust and the audience to pause. Therein lies the “delay” of the title—a time of its own that the viewer rediscovers in the face of endless scrolling.

The proposal also bridges two worlds: the university, understood as the great archive of what has not yet been said, and galleries, conceived as places capable of restoring a work’s mystery. The result is a refuge from the rapid consumption of visual stimuli, an invitation to imagine from the shadows.

In the curator’s words: “We live under the dictatorship of total light and absolute transparency (…) In the face of this ‘retinal capitalism,’ which quantifies everything, processes it, and turns it into consumable visual waste, this exhibition champions twilight and opacity as the last bastion of human freedom.”
