Zaramella. Between reality and animation

From September 12 to November 22 at the Space n-1 of the UPV.

Inauguration: Thursday, September 12 at 1 pm.

Juan Pablo Zaramella (Buenos Aires, 1972) is an Argentine independent animator. His love for drawing began in childhood, when he was only three years old he was already portraying his favorite cartoon characters and when he was five years old he said he wanted to be a “cartoonist”.

His work exudes a subtle and witty humor, marked by his beginnings as a cartoonist and illustrator in newspapers and magazines. He has flirted with all the techniques of frame-by-frame animation, from drawing to pixilation, passing by thestop motion in any of its facets.

His style is mutant, but maintains recurring patterns such as minimalist drawing, imperfection as a symbol of authenticity, primitive perspective, a taste for humor, connections with outer space and the beyond through irony, and a poetics that is always accompanied by a certain nostalgic air.

The Argentine animator has a great cinematographic vision and uses an economy of means and austerity in his creations without diminishing the quality of his films, which are frankly ingenious. His short films have received awards at the world’s most prestigious festivals.

Curated by Beatriz Herráiz and Miguel Vidal.

The exhibition can be seen from September 12 to November 22, 2024 in the Space n-1 of the Universitat Politècnica de València (first floor of the General Library – building 4L – Campus de Vera UPV, Valencia), from Monday to Friday from 11 to 14 h and from 16 to 19 h, Saturdays from 11 to 14 h.
