Epilogue Worlds to come 2022

As an epilogue to the first meetings of Mundos por venir, held in 2022, we convened two participants of those initial sessions in a new experimental format.

Thinking the imagination

Saturday, January 28th at 11:45 a.m.

Andrea Soto Calderón “Material Imagination”.

Juan Arnau “Matter as Imagination”.

Relegated to the realm of appearances, dreams or representations, the understanding of the imagination in the West has always placed it on the margins of the real. To rethink the imagination by escaping from this founding banishment will also be a radical exercise of imagination, both theoretical and practical. At the crossroads opened up by the imaginary, it is even possible that the canonical distinction between theory and practice may finally become irrelevant.

Andrea Soto Calderón has mobilized in a recent book the critical category of material imagination, from which it is possible to think that the activity of the imagination produces and forms modes of existence and reality. If imagination is the capacity to create images, how can we activate the power of the imaginal?

For Juan Arnau, for his part, the essence of life is imagination, confronted or paired with the material, and without imagination it would not even be possible to think the world or science itself. To think imagination today will also be, from his point of view, to think matter as imagination.

The second Worlds to Come meetings will take place between September and November 2023.
