Language Center Regulations

Requirements for Enrolment at the Language Centre (CdL)

Students must be at least 18 years old and be members of the UPV community (STUDENTS, ADMINISTRATIVE AND SERVICE STAFF (PAS), TEACHING AND RESEARCH STAFF (PDI), ALUMNI+, spouses and children over the age of 18 of PAS and PDI staff, and other affiliated personnel holding UPV accreditation).

Placement Tests

Students who hold a certificate of successful completion and wish to progress to the next level will be given priority for enrolment over other applicants.

Placement tests are compulsory, except for beginner-level courses, for all students enrolling for the first time and for those who do not have a valid placement test result issued by the Language Centre.

Placement tests must be taken on the dates specified by the CdL. Taking a placement test does not, under any circumstances, guarantee a place on a course. Placement test results are valid for one year.

Students who hold an official language certificate or a certificate of language proficiency issued by the language centre of a Spanish university may be exempt from taking the placement test. To request this exemption, they must submit their certificate to the Language Centre’s administrative office for approval. Certificates must have been issued within the previous 18 months.

Course Registration and Enrolment

Registration and enrolment for courses offered by the CdL must be completed online through the Centre for Lifelong Learning (CFP), which will issue the corresponding payment receipts.

Course fees must be paid within the specified deadline, in accordance with CFP regulations. Failure to pay within the established deadline will result in the immediate cancellation of the course registration.

Places will be allocated strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.

If a group reaches full capacity, students on the waiting list may be offered a place if vacancies become available due to cancellations, provided that the enrolment period is still open. Waiting-list students may also be offered places if new course groups are opened.

As the number of places is limited for educational reasons, the CdL reserves the right to close registration before the officially announced deadline.

If a course does not reach the minimum number of students required to run, it will be cancelled, and students who have already paid their course fees will receive a full refund.

Refund of Course Fees

Course fees paid for Language Centre courses will not be refunded if a student requests cancellation less than 5 calendar days before the course starts, for reasons not attributable to the University.

Where applicable, refund requests must be submitted online through the Centre for Lifelong Learning (CFP) intranet at www.cfp.upv.es.

Certificates and Examinations

Courses held from October to December (levels XX.1), as well as intensive courses held in July, only entitle students to a Certificate of Attendance. These courses do not include a final examination.

Courses held from February to May (levels XX.2) include a final examination corresponding to the level studied and may lead to a Certificate of Successful Completion, provided that the relevant requirements are met.

To obtain a Certificate of Successful Completion and/or a Certificate of Attendance, students must attend at least 80% of the total classes.

The final course grade will be calculated as follows:

  • 80%: Final examination grade.
  • 20%: Continuous assessment.

The final examination date will be communicated to students during the first few weeks of the course.

Students must take the final examination with the group in which they are enrolled and on the scheduled dates. Requests to change the examination date will only be accepted in cases of force majeure and must be supported by appropriate documentation.
