A coffee with… Carlos Franco Martínez

We talked to Carlos Franco Martínez, graduate in Forestry and Natural Environment Engineering and Master’s Degree in Forestry Engineering at ETSEAMN and recently awarded with the “Agustín Pascual – Grupo Tragsa 2023”.The best Master’s thesis in the IX National Competition of Final Master’s Degree Projects in Forestry Engineering.

  • Good morning, first of all we would like to get to know you better so we ask you to introduce yourself to your colleagues, who is Carlos Franco?

Good morning, first of all I would like to thank the School for having me. Carlos Franco is a26-year-old boy from Murcia who studied at the University of Murcia. of Degree in“Forestry and Environmental Engineering” and the “Master’s Degree in Forestry Engineering”. at ETSIAMN.

  • You have recently been awarded the prize for Best TFM in the IX Edition of the awards organized by the Colegio de Ingeniero de Montes and Grupo Trasga, what does this recognition mean to you?

I am proud to receive this award for several reasons, the first being that it is aThe awards are given by the Colegio de Ingenieros de Montes, the second for the the jury’s decision at such a high level.In addition, this award is named after Agustín Pascual, one of the fathers of Forestry Engineering in Spain..

The awarded work consists of the creation of a digital twin in the Carrascoy and El Valle Regional Park (Region of Murcia), to simulate forest fires and to be able to plan forestry actions.

  • What does the award-winning work consist of?

Mainly the work consists of thecreation of a digital twinof the Carrascoy and El Valle Regional Park (Region of Murcia), where thesimulate forest fires to be able to plan forestry actionsand thus be able to reduce the risk of fire.

  • Where do you want to direct/are you directing your professional future?

For the past three yearsI work in the forest fire sector. and at the moment, I would like toto continue to develop professionally in this fieldo.

On a professional level, I would like to start my doctorate soon.

  • What is your biggest challenge on a personal level?

Currently working and studying for the competitive examination takes up most of my timeso I guess that is my biggest professional challenge at the moment. Also, I would like to start my PhD soon.

  • Moving on to a more personal and relaxed side, what slogan or phrase would you say?is it an inspiration for you?

On Twitter we have found a way to communicate among colleagues in the Forestry sector.

  • Which social network do you find most useful?

On a personal level Instagram, on a professional level I think thaton Twitter we have found a way to communicate among colleagues in the Forestry sector. and to project ourselves outwards.

  • Pizza, with or without pineapple?

Pizza always without pineapple and in wood oven.

  • Vacations, sea or mountain?

Luckily I have the sea in my life and the mountains in my work. As in fires in summer we always work,winter vacations and travel in a foreign country with my partner.

  • Finally, coffee, black or with milk?

Depends: café with milk for breakfast, cut in the middle of the day.
