We are witnessing a profound transformation of the world and of our relationship with it. The evidence of the climate catastrophe has caused us to cross a certain threshold which, in the words of Bruno Latour, could be stated as follows: We’ve entered a whole new world. This profound transformation is being taken to the extreme by the public emergence of generative artificial intelligence and by the geopolitical upheavals that threaten democracies. To speak, then, of “worlds to come” is a way of appealing—from the margins of the University itself—to the plurality of possible worlds beyond technological totalitarianism and the devastating global situation. Our gaze is fixed on the future of these worlds, but the action needed to shape them is rooted in the present. From a position of epistemic and ontological pluralism, we call upon that “to come” here and now: we need to find tools to think through our present situation and to glimpse possible paths of action, transformation, and resistance. As Donna Haraway would say, “The Anthropocene does not have to be the end of worlds to come; it is a limit, not a destiny.”
The fifth edition of these events on contemporary thought will take place from September 24 to October 31, 2026. Admission is free until capacity is reached.
