Theremin Concert

May 9th, 2024, 7.30 p.m.
Alfons Roig Auditorium Faculty of Fine Arts UPV

The Telecommunication Museum, the School of Telecommunication Engineering, the Chamber Music Group and the Cultural Action Area of the UPV invite you to a Theremin Concert.

The theremin is the first electronic musical instrument that has reached our days, it has the particularity that it is played without physical contact between the interpreter and the instrument itself, making use of electromagnetic waves to produce music;

It is a musical instrument that serves to explain concepts such as antenna radiation, interference, wave frequency, modulation… In addition, the historical and social context where the instrument was born serves to tell our most recent history from a kaleidoscopic point of view and to understand how technology influences social movements, and vice versa.

The activity begins with a brief introduction to the functioning of the theremin, its historical relevance and its use in audiovisual production, to continue with the concert. In this concert we will enjoy an eclectic repertoire, mixing classical pieces with contemporary music, by the theremin soloist: Francisco Isla, who has performed at the prestigious music festival ENSEMS, accompanied by pianist Fernando Alarcón and the UPV Chamber Music Group, directed by Francisco J. Valero.
