Film Day 25/26

CYCLE MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY

The emergence of modernity in the 50’s and 60’s meant a real change of cinematographic regime. The New Cinemas and movements such as the nouvelle vagueil nuovo cinema Italianoor the renewing airs blowing from Eastern Europe, proposed new ways of understanding reality that disqualified that consideration of classical cinema as an open window that let us see an objective world. With the embers of modern cinema extinguished, and fully immersed in a completely digitized 21st century, it is a good idea to look for a new way of understanding reality. XXI century, it is a good time to ask ourselves what, if anything, remains of those revolts of freedom that shaped the physiognomy of cinema past the midpoint of the twentieth century. From the dialogue between films of the two periods, Modern and contemporaryasks about the traces of modernity that still linger in contemporary cinema.
