We live immersed in a profound mutation of the world and our relationship with it. Climate change is an increasingly devastating threat, and the war unleashed by Russia in Ukraine exacerbates to the extreme the barbarism of this era of catastrophes. Since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, reality itself seems to have transformed into a dystopian science fiction, while our relationship with the world resembles more and more a video game, as if it had become trapped in exception zones managed by screens and controlled by a swarm of algorithms that meticulously monitor our behaviors. The planet Earth itself seems to have plunged into a veritable “war of the worlds,” a global techno-political experiment completely out of control, where it is no longer possible to clearly distinguish fiction from reality or science from science fiction.
We undoubtedly need tools to think about our present and, eventually, to transform it. As Donna Haraway would say, the catastrophe of our era “does not have to be the end of worlds to come; it is a limit, not a destiny.”
The MUNDOS POR VENIR encounters aim to address certain urgencies of our time, as well as to glimpse possible lines of action, transformation, and resistance.
