Skills and Abilities

The skills and abilities that the student will have acquired upon completion of the master:
Signal Theory and Communications, and Telematic Engineering

  • Communication system development ability: design of equipment and subsystems, channel modelling, calculation and planification of links.

  • Ability to analyze, select and design communications system components: antennas and transmission lines (guides, fiber optics).

  • Know and apply signal processing techniques (voice and image) to communication and audiovisual systems.

  • Control the electromagnetic analysis modal methods for the resolution of open and closed problems.

  • Ability to use inverse problem-solving methods (synthesis and design), as well as their application to high-frequency passive devices.

  • Familiarity with the radiofrequency components on board telecommunications and radio-navigation satellites so that maintenance duties can be carried out on both the platform itself and its payload.

  • Acquisition of the knowledge needed to design, plan, implement and operate mobile and wireless communications networks.

  • Acquisition of the skills needed to design and implement microwave applicators to improve and optimise industrial processes.

  • Familiarity with the foundations and scope of validity of the different theories of propagation of optical radiation.

  • Ability to apply the theory of propagation of optical radiation to the design of photonic devices and optical nodes.

  • A broad vision of the materials and manufacturing techniques used in nanophotonics.Designing nanophotonic devices.

  • Familiarity with the main standards used in digital communications today

  • Acquisition of advanced knowledge of digital communications systems.

  • Familiarity with the foundations of optimal detection/classification and estimation, and their application to signal analysis.

  • Ability to understand and know how to apply the technologies and network protocols, services and telematic applications.

  • Ability to model, design, implement, manage, operate and maintain (public, corporate, local area) networks.

  • Capacity for planning, decision making and network packaging. Services and their applications considering the quality of service, and direct costs of operation. Implementation plan, monitoring, safety procedures, scaling and maintenance, as well as manage and ensure quality in the development process.

  • Capacity to evaluate the performance of telecommunications systems and networks.

  • Ability to model and evaluate different classic problems in communications networks by means of analytical and simulation approaches.

  • Ability to dimension a telecommunications network that is to offer telecommunications services with a particular quality of service (QoS)..

  • Analyze, design and implement wireless LANs.

  • Understand the associated problems with mobile communications managing.

  • Analysis and design of real-time systems taking into account the requirements imposed by communications, network architecture and standards.

  • Modelling techniques for content distribution.

  • Familiarity with both the technical and legal and management aspects of security.

  • Familiarity with the process of creating an information society within the worldwide, European and Spanish frameworks.
