Jornada de Sociolingüística d'Alcoi

The Polytechnic University of Valencia, along with the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua (Valencian Academy of Language), Alcoy City Hall,  Alicante Delegation of the IEC, Coordinadora de l’Alcoià i el Comtat pel Valencià, and Centre Ovidi Montllor are organising the Sociolinguistics Symposium in Alcoy. This event also has the support of other public universities of Valencia.

The aim of the XIX Sociolinguistics Symposium in Alcoy is to analyse and discuss the use of Valencian in the areas without normal or clearly insufficient access to this language, such as Justice, Real Estate Register, Notaries, and Police (Guardia Civil, National Police, Army, among others), as well as the lack of regional media due to the recent closure of RTVV (Valencian TV and Radio).

To discuss this issue, the program of the XIX Symposium includes the participation of experts in these fields, such as Merce Teodoro (Acció Cultural del País Valencià), José Ochoa (Alicante University), Anselm Bodoque (Valencia University), Juan Antonio Blay (Público), Adolf Beltran (El País), Xelo Miralles (journalist and former member of the Board of RTVV), Vicent Partal (Vilaweb), or Ferran Suay (Valencia University).

At the symposium, there will be an exhibition, “Ensenyar en temps difícils. Carles Salvador i Enric Matalí” ("Teaching in Difficult Times. Carles Salvador and Enric Matalí”); the presentation of the documentary Nosaltres els valencians, produced by Barret Films; and a monologue by the actress Rosanna Espinós.

Registration: online at this link, until March 26, 2014.
