The graduate of the Master’s Degree in Environmental Assessment and Monitoring of Marine and Coastal Ecosystems (MEMIC), Diego Villar López, has been awarded the First Prize at the 8th edition of the COAMBCV Awards, held on June 26 in the Font Roja Natural Park (Alcoi).
The award-winning work, titled “Development and Analysis of a Photo-Identification Catalog for the Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) in the ES6200048 Special Area of Conservation (SAC) ‘Submerged Valleys of the Mazarrón Escarpment’”, is developing the first photo-identification catalog for this species in the study area, combining traditional techniques with artificial intelligence-based tools to contribute to the understanding and conservation of bottlenose dolphin populations.
We at MEMIC would like to congratulate Diego Villar on this recognition, which highlights the quality of the work carried out by our students and their contribution to the research and conservation of marine ecosystems.
