On February 13 we received at AVM the visit of Ana Prendes, curator and writer based in Barcelona.
Exploring dialogues between art and science
Her work, between institutional and independent practice, explores the critical dialogue between the arts and technoscientific culture. She is currently responsible for programs at Platform Dalí, an art and science initiative of the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation in collaboration with scientific centers in Barcelona. Previously she was Assistant Curator at Arts at CERN (2020-25) and worked at the Science Gallery Network and Science Gallery London. She has presented projects and lectures at institutions such as Belvedere 21, ZKM, Instituto Documenta or Tabakalera, and has received curatorial grants from Arts Council Korea, Shanghai Curators Lab and UNAM, among others. She is co-founder of the Creative Producers Programme of Ars Electronica and is a regular contributor to art and science publications.
Fundamental science laboratories have become spaces of artistic production, from precedents such as the Artist Placement Group or MIT’s CAVS to contemporary programs in research centers. These practices coexist with specialized languages, complex infrastructures and different models of knowledge legitimization.
In this framework, curatorship acts as a point of mediation: it navigates disparate epistemologies, translates between communities and generates conditions of encounter. Drawing on his experience at Arts at CERN, Science Gallery and Platform Dalí, Prendes analyzes residencies and artistic commissions, as well as exhibition and editorial formats for diverse audiences. When the laboratory becomes a space for shared speculation and art a situated form of research, interdisciplinary dialogues open up new ways of understanding the phenomena that transform the world.
