Preliminary study for the Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity Plan of the UPV

The Vice-Rector’s Office for Sustainable Campus Development plans to put out to tender this year the Green and Biodiversity Plan of the UPV Campuses. This plan is part of the institution’s ecological transition project intending to achieve carbon neutrality in the medium term, spreading the culture of environmental awareness and adapting the actions of the university space to environmental sustainability criteria.

To this end, a preliminary study has been commissioned to serve as the basis for drawing up the plan’s contract specifications. This strategic document will contemplate the management of green infrastructure through landscape intervention, naturalization, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. Based on the results of previous participatory processes and others that will be developed, some of the plan’s actions will be aimed at:

  • increase plant diversity,
  • introduce bioindicators,
  • diversify open areas (cultivation areas, playgrounds, green reserves, water reserves),
  • to adapt shaded itineraries,
  • ensure accessibility,
  • improving water management through SUDS

In addition, the content of the plan will include integrated planning that will respond to an adaptive cyclical scheme and will include at least five differentiated steps: 1) Organization of documents and identification of critical aspects, 2) Internal and external diagnosis, 3) Definition of goals, objectives and strategic lines, 4) Action plan, with the proposal of actions to achieve the objectives of each strategic line, 5) Monitoring and evaluation, allowing for adjustments and adaptation.

The preliminary study, currently in its final drafting phase, is being prepared by the company Imedes.
