Daidalonic

The Spontaneous Generation team, composed mostly of ETSIADI students, wins second place in the II University Competition of Prosthetic Hands.

Designing a prosthesis, manufacturing it and demonstrating its precision and dexterity in actions inspired by everyday life. That has been the challenge of the II University Competition of Prosthetic Hands in which the winner  Daidalonic, equipment of  Spontaneous GenerationThe second place in the category of pilot prosthesis has been won by the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).

Olga Gómez, a student who participated in the organization of the competition and who is part of the Daidalonic team, assures that “for us to collect this second prize, between tears and hugs, has been an indescribable emotion and the best reward after months of dedication. We are deeply proud of our pilots and our technical team, whose efforts have positioned us as leaders in the university field of myoelectric prostheses”.

The competition was held on May 15 at the School of Aerospace Engineering and Industrial Design of the Universitat Politècnica de València. Eleven teams from different Spanish universities participated, bringing together just over 150 participants. They competed in two categories: with and without pilot. With pilot, in addition to the second place of Daidalonic from the UPV, completed the podium, in first place Uji-Hand, from the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón, and in third place ARM2u, from the Universitat Politècnica de Cataluyna. In the unmanned category Extremanus, from the University of Extremadura, won the first position.

The participating teams tested the prostheses developed by university students. They were measured in different grip, mobility and dexterity tests inspired by everyday life actions.

Interdisciplinary collaboration

Along with the competition, the Daidalonic team took on the tasks of organization and communication of the meeting, while Poliwood and Toma Uno, also teams from Generación Espontánea, collaborated in the audiovisual part.

The day also included a panel discussion focused on the real challenges of prosthetic development. It addressed issues such as accessibility, clinical adaptation, the impact on everyday life and the role of engineering in the creation of functional solutions.

With a record participation and the presence of universities from all over the country, the competition consolidates its growth as a national meeting point for university projects related to biomechanics and mechatronics. The next edition will be held at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.

Spontaneous Generation

In addition, student Olga Gómez explains that “for us, belonging to Spontaneous Generation with Daidalonic means having the opportunity to fulfill our dreams, transforming our ideas into realities that impact people’s lives. More than a team, we are a family united by challenges, technology and self-improvement, and this award is proof of that.”

Spontaneous Generation is the pioneering program of the Universitat Politècnica de València that emerged in 2014. It is the launch pad for interdisciplinary student projects, promotes “learning by doing” and transversal competencies. It also supports participation in national and international competitions. This course brings together 65 teams with 3,000 students and consolidates the UPV as a university benchmark in Spain.
