II University Prosthetic Hands Competition

Last Friday, May 15, the II University Contest of Prosthetic Hands was held at the ETSIADI of the Universitat Politècnica de València, a day of special interest for students and the community of the MUI Mechatronics of the UPV because of its direct relationship with the design, robotics, electronics, control and integration of mechatronic systems. The event gathered 140 people and hosted 10 teams from 8 Spanish universities, which competed in two categories. Two teams competed in the non-piloted category, while the other eight participated in the general category, in which the prostheses were used by pilots with transradial amputation.
Each team faced the challenge of designing and fabricating a hand prosthesis of their own creation, incorporating mechanical, electrical, myoelectric or combined solutions, both anthropomorphic and hook type.
During the competition, the prostheses were put to the test on a timed course with different challenges involving gripping, object manipulation and activities inspired by everyday life situations. This made it possible to assess the technical quality of the designs and their functionality, reliability and responsiveness to real-life tasks.
For the academic management of MUI Mechatronics it was a pleasure to be part of the organization of this day, in which engineering, creativity and practical application came together around a technological challenge with real impact. This second edition has once again demonstrated the value of the competition as a space for learning, innovation and collaboration between universities; a line that we are confident will continue to consolidate in future editions, starting with the next event, which already has a venue: the UPC will host the third edition. The school offered a very suitable environment for an activity of these conditions, favoring the meeting between students, teams, pilots and the public interested in applied innovation.
In this second edition, the awards went to:
🏆 Non-piloted category: Extremanus, from the University of Extremadura ( https://lnkd.in/eu2fcTen)
🏆 General category
1st UJI-Hand, from the Universitat Jaume I ( https://lnkd.in/e3pSMVvx)
2nd Daidalonic, from the Universitat Politècnica de València ( https://lnkd.in/efEs_ymU)
3rd ARM2u ( https://lnkd.in/eqMbnumr), of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya
