Access and Admission Requirements for Official Master’s Degrees at UPV

The access requirements for this degree are those generally established in Royal Decree 822/2021, as stated in Article 18. The specific Regulations on Pre-enrolment and Admission to Official Master’s Degree Studies at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) also apply.

To access official university Master’s degree programmes, applicants must hold one of the following qualifications:

1. An official Spanish Bachelor’s degree (Grado) or equivalent, or another official Master’s degree, or a qualification of the same level as the Spanish Bachelor’s or Master’s degree issued by universities and higher education institutions in a country within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that grants access to Master’s studies in that country.

2. A qualification issued within an education system outside the EHEA equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree, without the need for official recognition (homologation), although the university must verify the level of training. The qualification must grant access to postgraduate university studies in the issuing country. Access through this route does not imply recognition or equivalence of the prior qualification for any purpose other than undertaking Master’s studies.

3. A foreign university qualification officially recognised (homologated) by the Spanish Ministry of Education as equivalent to an official Spanish university degree, or declared equivalent to an official university academic level that allows access to Master’s studies.

4. An official university qualification corresponding to the system prior to the EHEA in accordance with Additional Provision One of Royal Decree 822/2021:

  • Official degree of Architect, Graduate (Licenciado/a) or Engineer.
  • Official degree of Diploma holder (Diplomado/a), Technical Architect or Technical Engineer.

5. Exceptionally, students enrolled in a Spanish or EHEA Bachelor’s degree who only have their Final Degree Project (TFG) and up to a maximum of 9 ECTS credits pending may be conditionally admitted. Students who have not yet accredited the foreign language requirement necessary to obtain their Bachelor’s degree may also be admitted.

Under no circumstances may students admitted conditionally to a Master’s programme obtain the Master’s degree before completing their Bachelor’s degree.

Reserved Quotas

UPV reserves at least 5% of the places offered in official Master’s degrees for students with a recognised disability of 33% or higher, as well as for students with permanent educational support needs associated with personal disability circumstances who required resources and support in previous studies to ensure full educational inclusion.

In such cases, the UPV Student Disability Support Service (CEDAT Foundation) will assess each case and issue a report determining eligibility for pre-enrolment under this reserved quota. Applicants must provide the required documentation for assessment.

Places within each quota are allocated according to admission score.

General Admission Requirements for Master’s Degrees at UPV

Students who meet the access requirements may be admitted to a Master’s programme in accordance with the specific requirements and merit assessment criteria established by each programme, pursuant to Article 18.5 of Royal Decree 822/2021.

The requirements and criteria for this Master’s degree have been defined in accordance with Article 5.2 of UPV’s Regulations on Pre-enrolment and Admission to ensure equal access opportunities.

These criteria are transparent and objective and allow selection of the most qualified applicants based on academic records and accredited merits, under comparable conditions.

Admission to this Master’s programme does not modify the academic or professional effects of the applicant’s previous qualification, nor imply recognition for any purpose other than undertaking Master’s studies.

Specific Admission Requirements for the Master’s Degree

The Academic Committee of the Degree is responsible for establishing the assessment criteria used to determine the order of priority for admission, in accordance with UPV regulations and guidelines issued by the Vice-Rector’s Office responsible for students.

The composition of the Academic Committee is regulated by Article 4.2 of the Academic Regulations and Student Assessment Rules.

Reference Degrees and Related Degrees

Due to the professional nature of this qualification and its regulatory framework, there must be a link between the applicant’s previous degree and the chosen specialisation. Therefore, some degrees allow direct and preferential access, others allow direct but lower-priority access, and some do not grant direct access.

For admission to each specialisation of the Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Teaching at UPV, the following priority levels apply:

Admission Criteria and Weighting

In accordance with the provisions set out in Chapter 3, Title VI of the Regulations on Pre-enrolment and Admission to Official Master’s Degrees, the following criteria must always be applied: academic record (50%), correspondence between the competencies of the access degree and the reference degree (40%), and curriculum vitae (10%).

  1. Assessment of the Academic Record. For admission to each specialisation, the applicant’s academic record will be assessed on a standardised scale (from 1 to 10) and will account for 50% of the final evaluation. In the case of transcripts graded on scales other than those established in Royal Decree 1125/2003, applicants must provide an official declaration of grade equivalence for university studies completed at foreign institutions, issued by the Ministry responsible for universities. Applicants who do not provide this document will be assigned an average access grade of 5.
  2. Correspondence between the Competencies of the Access Degree and the Reference Degree. For admission to each specialisation, the prioritisation of degrees established under “Reference Degrees” will be taken into account. Specifically: Priority Level 1: 10 points, Priority Level 2: 8 points, Priority Level 3: 5 points. This score will account for 40% of the final evaluation. For holders of Diploma, Technical Architect or Technical Engineer degrees, the qualification submitted will be awarded 3 points, which will also account for 40% of the final evaluation.
  3. Curriculum Vitae. The CV will be assessed on a scale from 0 to 10 and will account for 10% of the final evaluation. The following components will be considered: additional Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degrees, language proficiency, educational publications, and professional experience in the field of teaching. Applicants will be admitted strictly in order of ranking, up to the number of places offered. In the event of withdrawals, and provided that a waiting list exists, vacancies will be filled until all available places are allocated or the waiting list is exhausted, following the established order of priority.

After the admission of graduates, if places remain available, students who have not yet completed their Bachelor’s degree may be admitted provided they meet one of the following conditions:

  • Students from eligible access degrees who only have their Final Degree Project (TFG) and up to a maximum of 9 ECTS credits pending may be admitted conditionally. Students who have not yet accredited the foreign language requirement necessary to obtain their Bachelor’s degree may also be admitted conditionally.

Note: The reference to 30 pending credits applies only to PARS programmes and is not applicable to this Master’s degree.

Specific Entrance Examinations or Particular Admission Criteria

  • Access Requirement: The entrance test for students who wish to access a specialisation of the Master’s programme and hold a Priority Level 3 degree shall consist of a personal interview conducted by the Academic Committee of the Master’s programme, in order to verify that the applicant possesses the basic competencies required to successfully pursue the chosen specialisation.
  • Language Requirement: Spanish will be the language of instruction for the programme. Applicants from countries where Spanish is not an official language must provide proof of Spanish language proficiency demonstrating adequate command of the language. Specifically, they must certify a B1 level of Spanish through any of the official certificates recognised by the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) or by the Association of Higher Education Language Centres (ACLES), as indicated in the table of recognised certificates. In addition, in order to comply with current regulations (Section 4.2 of Order ECI/3858/2007 of 27 December, which establishes the requirements for the verification of official university degrees qualifying graduates to practise as Secondary Education, Upper Secondary Education, Vocational Training and Language Education teachers), applicants must also provide proof of a B1 level in a foreign language through one of the certificates recognised by ACLES. The UPV Language Centre offers several examination sessions throughout the year to facilitate accreditation of foreign language proficiency from A2 to C1 level, both for the general public and for members of the university community.
  • Students from eligible Bachelor’s degrees who only have their Final Degree Project (TFG) and up to a maximum of 9 ECTS credits pending may be admitted conditionally. Students who have not yet accredited the foreign language requirement necessary to obtain their Bachelor’s degree may also be admitted conditionally.
