The days June 5 and 10, 2026, the Master’s Degree in Electronic Systems Engineering (MUISE) The Polytechnic University of Valencia hosted a new professional seminar focused on the development of embedded systems, taught by Francisco José Fabra Collado, engineer at Versa Design, a company specializing in the design of hardware and firmware for high-performance electronic systems. The activity gave students a first-hand look at the methodologies and tools used in professional firmware development, bridging the gap between the real world of industry and the academic environment.
The seminar focused on the principles underlying the development of robust, efficient, and maintainable embedded software, covering topics that go beyond basic programming and are essential for industrial projects. Throughout the sessions, best practices for programming in the language were reviewed C, organizing firmware projects, strategies for optimizing code performance, and debugging techniques that make it possible to locate and correct errors in systems with limited hardware resources.
One of the sessions that generated the most interest among attendees was dedicated to the use of real-time operating systems (RTOS). The speaker explained how these tools make it possible to structure complex applications using concurrent tasks, synchronization mechanisms, and scheduling, analyzing the criteria that guide the selection of an appropriate software architecture based on the requirements of each application. This approach enabled students to understand the transition from sequential programs to professional designs capable of meeting the demands of modern embedded systems.
In addition to the technical content, the seminar placed special emphasis on the software quality, offering recommendations on code organization, modularity, component reuse, documentation, and maintenance. These aspects, which are often critical in the professional world, complement students’ technical training and help them develop skills that are highly valued by companies in the industry.
The students’ active participation led to several questions about development tools, work methodologies, and real-world experiences in industrial projects. The exchange of ideas provided insight into how problems related to firmware optimization, hardware integration, and validation processes are addressed in practice, offering a perspective very close to the professional practice of electronic systems engineering.
