The days April 14, 15, 16, and 17, 2026, the Master’s Degree in Environmental Assessment and Monitoring of Marine and Coastal Ecosystems (MEMIC) featured the participation of María José Juan Jordá, Senior Researcher at the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC), who taught the course “An Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management” within the course Development and Use of Coastal Areas.
Throughout the various sessions, the students have worked on fundamental concepts related to the ecosystem-based fisheries management, analyzing tools, methodologies, and case studies applied to the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources. The course addressed ecological, socioeconomic, and governance issues, providing a comprehensive overview of one of the main challenges in marine environmental management.
The involvement of external professionals with experience in research and applied work enriches the students’ education by providing a current perspective that is closely tied to the realities of marine and fisheries management.
This activity is part of the commitment of the Polytechnic University of Valencia with the UPV SIRVE Strategic Plan, promoting high-quality education based on the connection between teaching, research, and knowledge transfer.
