The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has obtained official registration of its carbon footprint for 2024 in the Registry of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), once again achieving the triple stamp “Calculate, Reduce and Compensate” for Scopes 1 and 2. With this recognition, the UPV maintains a position of leadership in the Spanish university system, being the only university to obtain this triple seal with a verified footprint in the official registry for the year 2024.
This milestone consolidates a trajectory initiated in 2022, when the UPV became one of the first universities to achieve this distinction, and confirms the institution’s sustained progress in climate management.
The evolution of the carbon footprint reflects a continuous decrease in emissions over the last decade, as a result of the measures implemented in energy efficiency, facilities management and resource optimization. In the recent period, the UPV has achieved a significant reduction in emissions intensity emissions, reinforcing the effectiveness of the policies adopted. The calculation includes all university activity -teaching, research and services- carried out at the Vera, Gandía and Alcoy campuses, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to sustainability.
Likewise, obtaining the triple seal implies not only the calculation and reduction of emissions, but also the partial offsetting of the footprint generated emissions, moving towards increasingly responsible models aligned with decarbonization objectives.
This recognition reaffirms the UPV’s commitment to climate action and to the development of more sustainable, resilient and efficient campuses.
