UPV doubles the use of its electric recharging points by 2025

Data from the electric vehicle charging service of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) for 2025 confirm a clearly positive evolution. Compared to the first annual series (February 2024 – January 2025), usage has almost doubled since the current chargers were put into operation.

During 2025, the following were recorded 3,377 recharge sessions compared to 1,486 in the first year of operation. This increase is also reflected in energy consumption, which rose from 16.87 MWh to 45.12 MWh, and in the average number of daily users, which reached 8 (double that of the previous series).

The Vera campus accounts for 80% of the use, followed by Alcoi (12%) and Gandia (8%). Thanks to this activity, it is estimated that 40.51 tons of CO₂ were avoided by 2025 emissions, compared to 14.78 tons in the 2024-2025 period.

The monthly usage data of electric vehicle chargers since installation can be consulted on this website.

New infrastructure on the way

In addition to the notable increase in usage, the UPV will soon expand its recharging network. According to the grant received from IVACE within the MOVES III program, the university currently installs 37 new 22 kW recharging points at the Vera campus and 2 additional points at the Gandia campus, which will be added to those already in operation. This investment will ensure 100% compliance with current legislation and reinforce the institutional commitment to sustainable mobility.

With this expansion, the UPV continues to advance in its sustainable mobility strategy, offering more recharging options to its community and favoring the transition towards a cleaner energy model.
