The SSbD approach aims to provide key criteria and indicators for decision making so that new developments, products and/or services are designed on the basis of safety and sustainability principles throughout the product life cycle, from production to use and recycling. This approach, following the guidelines of the Joint Research Council (JRC) of the European Commission, is articulated in two phases: a design phase, based on adherence to recommendations and basic principles, and an evaluation phase, which allows the collection of indicators in the process of research and development of these new more sustainable materials, products or services.
As a case study, the ViSS project, https://viss-project.eu/, funded by the European Commission, which applies the SSbD approach to the design of bio-based and circular plastic material for food packaging, will be presented. The SSbD approach has proven to be appropriate for the objectives of the project and will continue to be used.
The talk will be given by KVELOCE, an international consulting firm specialized in European funding programs for Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I) projects, https://kveloce.com/.
