EXHIBITION May 5 to 19. North corridor ETSA
Valencia, capital of the Second Republic from November 7, 1936 to October 31, 1937 was, during the civil war, the third most bombed city, after Madrid and Barcelona.
Era the first time that the civilian population became military targets. The Passive Defense Board built numerous shelters in neighborhoods, schools or public buildings, but from April 1938, due to the increasing intensity of the conflict, the authorities urged the population to build as many private shelters as possible, in buildings, neighborhoods, businesses and premises.
This exhibition shows a series of bomb shelters designed by the Valencian architect Joaquín Rieta Sister during the civil war for private use. Placing them in the current urban fabric of the city of Valencia and presenting them in the historical context of the moment in which the commissions were made and the works were executed.
