As the ravine passes through Chiva, a territorial opportunity arises, in a strategic position between two large-scale river corridors, the ravine can be seen as a strategic cross-cutting connector.
The proposal considers it as a landscape regeneration device, in which water and humidity are the main protagonists of an Agrofluvial Park where orchards coexist with enhanced riparian and Mediterranean ecosystems. A landscape operation is proposed to expand the space of the ravine so that the new heart of Chiva becomes a floodable ecotone that weaves the hydraulic heritage, roads and existing continuities and ecosystems; an elongated centrality that enhances the flows and activities with three main nodes distributed along its course.
Chiva goes from turning its back on the ravine to breathing through it.
This is the premise of “Breathing back: the urban and landscape regeneration of the Chiva ravine”, the proposal awarded with the first prize to the Chiva site in the last edition of the EUROPAN competition.
