Telling the story of the university from the inside and through the eyes of those who experience it is the premise from which it arises “La bienvenida a la Uni”. This series, created entirely by students and adapted to the vertical format for social media, brings the experiences of the university community to the screen.
The series, which premiered on September 17 on the accounts of TikTok and YouTube Shorts from the Universitat Politècnica de València was presented at the UPV’s Gandia campus during a session attended by students and faculty from the university.
Almost a year of work
Consisting of 15 chapters, “La bienvenida a la Uni” it explores, from a youthful, relatable, and everyday perspective, the experiences of those starting college: the first classes, new friendships, nerves, doubts, and the situations that come with starting college.
One of the project’s key distinguishing features is that the entire creative process was carried out by UPV students, without the use of artificial intelligence—from the conception of the idea and the writing of the script to production and filming.
The direction was handled by Samuel Hernández and Vega Medina, graduates of the Dual Degree in Telecommunications, Audio, and Video Engineering + Audiovisual Communication that is taught at the UPV’s Gandia campus.
The cast also includes six other UPV students—four from the Gandia campus and two from the Vera campus—who bring to life the main characters in the various stories and situations depicted in the series: Andrea, Xavi, Carla, Esther, Julián, and Eric.
The series poster was designed by Lewis Sánchez, who is also a student in the dual-degree program, while Guillem Salelles He was responsible for the series’ logo. In addition, they received technical assistance from several classmates in the program: Hugo Igarza, Miriam Molina, Adina Dan, Inés López and Olga Pérez, among others.
New Narratives
“La bienvenida a la Uni” it was launched by the UPV’s Communications Department, with the support of the Office of the Vice Rector for Communications, as a commitment to new audiovisual formats and to the talent, creativity, and initiative of the students at the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
The series also represents a new way to bring the university closer to its student body and to those who are about to begin their studies, using the narrative conventions typical of digital platforms and placing the students themselves at the centre of the story.
Another goal of the series is to encourage reflection on certain attitudes and behaviours that may arise in college life. To this end, the show features a variety of characters and situations, with both positive and negative behaviours, and demonstrates how certain behaviours can be redirected. In this way, the series aims to entertain and connect with its audience, while presenting relatable situations and offering a critical perspective on attitudes that can hinder respectful coexistence.
With “La bienvenida a la Uni”, the UPV is committed to telling the university’s story from the inside, through the eyes of those who experience it firsthand, and to exploring new forms of communication tailored to the habits and language of the younger generations.
