What are the DELE Diplomas
The Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) are official diplomas, accrediting the degree of competence and command of the Spanish language, awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain.
The DELE covers all variants of Spanish and they are considered equally valid for obtaining the diploma.
The DELE exams are designed following the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe, which guarantees a practical way to establish an international and objective standard measurement of the level to be achieved at each stage of teaching and the evaluation of results.
The University of Salamanca collaborates with the Instituto Cervantes in the elaboration of the model exams and in the evaluation of the tests for obtaining Spanish diplomas.
The DELE Diplomas cover all CEFR levels:
* Spanish Diploma Level A1.
* Spanish Diploma Level A2.
* Diploma of Spanish Level B1 (formerly Inicial).
* Spanish Diploma Level B2 (formerly Intermediate).
* Spanish Diploma Level C1.
* Spanish Diploma Level C2.
The Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language were created within the framework of the various actions promoted with the purpose of disseminating Spanish and increasing the presence of our culture abroad.
General Terms and Conditions
Candidates who wish to sit for the examinations for the Diplomas in Spanish must meet the following requirements:
1. Prove, at the time of registration, their status as citizens of a country where the Spanish language is not an official language;
Citizens of Spanish-speaking countries residing in states where Spanish is not an official language may apply for registration if they meet at least two of the following conditions:
o Spanish is not the native language of either parent.
o Spanish is not the first language you learned.
o Spanish is not a common language of communication;
o Has not completed all or part of his or her primary or secondary education in Spanish;
The candidates referred to in paragraph 2 above shall declare in writing that they meet at least two of the above conditions.
Test format
ALTE and the Reference Framework
The Instituto Cervantes and the University of Salamanca are members of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE). One of the main tasks of this association has been the creation of a framework of levels of competence in order to facilitate the transnational recognition of certifications;
In this regard, ALTE has actively collaborated with the Council of Europe in the drafting of the assessment guidelines contained in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment. The levels of the Spanish Diplomas and their equivalence to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages are being reviewed through content verification and validation procedures. Their ideal positioning in the context of the Framework is illustrated as follows:
