The Office of Cultural Activities of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) presents the play ‘The Banquet’. The UPV English Theatre Group performance will take place on Friday November 14 at 7.30 pm, in the UPV Faculty of Fine Arts.
The play, produced by Ana Gimeno and directed by David Perry, is set in the mid-sixteenth century when, according to the synopsis, “Lope de Rueda is one of the few professional actors in Spain, Cervantes lives but he hasn’t started writing yet and Lope de Vega is just an incipient thought in the minds of his future parents”.
The production tells the story of a Spanish group of strolling players that wander Europe looking for money, fame and glory. They finally find jobs as servants in England, in the palace of the Marquis of Canterbody. The Marquis aims to marry off his twenty-year-old daughter, so they invite the six handsomest and wealthiest men in Europe to complete a series of challenges with the girl’s hand as the prize. However, she only dreams of becoming an actress.
