PHOENIX VALENCIA: Breaking the Wall, is an artistic project of cultural exchange that across the graphic arts looks at the world through a lens without borders and invites the reflection of intercultural relations.
The hybridization and the miscegenation present in contemporary artistic practices are a reflection of the migratory flows that throughout history and in our current world face the regulations of countries and generate a constant reflection on the conditions of borderlands. Following a tradition that goes back several centuries, the print exchange allows for idea migrations and to connect distinct cultures to one another; in this case, shortening the distance between the North American desert and the Mediterranean coast.
The result of the exhibition and collaboration of the print portfolio, brings together works of 12 artists of the Herbeger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University (Phoenix, USA) and 12 members from the Facultat de Belles Arts of the UPV. Additionally, the Phoenix artists were invited to exhibit original works such as photographs, videos, sculptures, and installations to further the dialog of the print exchange.
