PHOENIX VALÈNCIA. Breaking the Wall is an artistic project of cultural exchange, which through graphic works focuses on a world without borders and invites us to reflect on intercultural relations.
The hybridisation and fusion of contemporary art practices reflect the migratory flows throughout history and right now in our globalised world, which are at odds with the regulation of countries and generate constant reflection on the nature of borders. Similarly, following a tradition that goes back several centuries, the exchange of prints enables the transfer of ideas and allows us to transcend frontiers, to show ourselves and meet and learn from one another: in this case, reducing the distance between the American desert and the Mediterranean coast.
The exhibition is the result of this collaboration: a collection of graphic artworks under the same title brings together works by 12 artists from the Herbeger Institute for Design and the Arts in Arizona State University (Phoenix, EE.UU.) and other pieces created by artists associated with the Fine Arts Faculty of the UPV. This collaboration reaches its climax with the invitation to the Phoenix artists to exhibit other original works (photography, video, sculpture, installation) in València.
