Dr. Yamila Victoria Vazquez approaches MUIPCM students about the role of materials science in the circular economy.

The Master’s Degree in Materials Engineering, Processing and Characterization held the seminar “The role of materials science in the circular economy, from eco-design to resource valorization”, given by Dr. Yamila Victoria Vazquez, researcher at the Chemical Engineering Pilot Plant (PLAPIQUI) of the National University of the South, Argentina.

During the session, Dr. Vazquez presented to the students an international and applied vision on the role of materials science and technology in the transition towards circular economy models. In her speech, she highlighted the importance of considering sustainability criteria from the early stages of product development, integrating aspects such as eco-design, material selection, processing and post-consumer resource recovery.

The seminar provided an insight into the challenges associated with traditional recycling and the complexity of post-consumer materials, especially in the case of plastics. In this context, the need to jointly analyze the performance of materials, their useful life and end-of-life strategies was addressed, with the aim of moving towards more sustainable and efficient solutions aligned with the principles of the circular economy.

The activity offered MUIPCM students the opportunity to learn about resource valorization strategies and applied examples, reinforcing the link between scientific knowledge, technological development and transfer in the field of materials engineering.

From the Master’s Degree in Engineering, Processing and Characterization of Materials we thank Dr. Yamila Victoria Vazquez for her participation and contribution to the training of students, as well as her contribution to the internationalization of the academic activities of the degree.

This activity is part of the Master’s Degree in Engineering, Processing and Characterization of Materials and has been funded by the call DINT_26 – Dynamization and Internationalization of Master’s Studies, within the framework of the UPV SIRVE Strategic Plan.
