In addition to the degree, the UPV generally requires for master’s degree studies the fulfillment of the legal requirements for access (in the case of foreign degrees, homologation or equivalence to a Spanish degree, or verification that the degree allows access to a master’s degree in the country of origin).
Since the teaching is done in Spanish and English, and in order to ensure that the students are able to follow all the training activities, it will be required:
For students enrolling in the Spanish program who come from non-Spanish speaking countries, a level equivalent to B2 of Spanish will be required.
For students enrolling in the English program who come from non-English speaking countries, a level equivalent to B2 in English will be required.
Admission for disabled students
For students with specific educational needs arising from a disability, appropriate support and counseling services will be established to assess the needs of curricular adaptations, itineraries or alternative studies, through the support of the CEDAT Foundation of the UPV.
The CEDAT Foundation of the UPV offers information and advice to members of the university community with disabilities, as well as accompaniment and support in the classroom. In addition, it provides technical aids for study to those members of the student body who, due to their special educational needs, require it. It also promotes and manages training and employment actions for this group, both inside and outside the UPV campuses, and offers different services from its Special Employment Center.
The foundation also carries out projects for the elimination of architectural and urban barriers, comprehensive accessibility plans, accessibility audits, project reviews, advice and design of ideal accessibility models.
General information on access can be found in the Alumni Service – Access
Admission criteria
In the event that the demand for candidates exceeds the supply of places, a merit scale will be applied for the selection and ranking of applicants. The admission criteria weigh various aspects of the applicant’s profile, with the aim of assessing their suitability and academic-professional merit.
The selection criteria are established by prioritizing the candidates by adding the points obtained for the following three concepts:
A
Evaluation of the academic record
Points are assigned from 5 to 10.
B
Affinity of studies pursued
Points are assigned from 0 to 10.
C
Evaluation of the curriculum vitae
They are assigned from 0 to 10 points, considering:
- The student’s professional experience related to the Master’s Degree (maximum of 5 points).
- Knowledge of languages (maximum of 2 points).
- Complementary Academic Training (maximum of 2 points).
- Other merits (maximum of 1 point).
The Academic Committee will evaluate each application based on the documentation provided (transcripts, curriculum vitae, language certificates, motivation/recommendation letters, portfolio if required, etc.) and will apply the scale to assign a total score. Based on this score, the selection will be made until the number of places offered is reached.
In general, we seek to admit those candidates with the best academic record and training most closely related to the program, while ensuring a diverse and balanced group. All criteria are applied respecting the principles of equality, merit and ability. The results of the admission process will be published on the dates indicated in the official UPV calendar, and those admitted will receive instructions on how to formalize their enrollment at a later date.
Scholarships
Studies leading to an official university degree allow access to scholarships and grants. The Ministry of Education, the Generalitat Valenciana and the Universitat Politècnica de València itself offer various scholarships and grants.

General scholarships for students pursuing post-compulsory studies valid throughout the national territory. The scholarship will consist of exemption from payment of fees for the provision of university academic services (tuition fees), corresponding to subjects enrolled for the first time. Other fixed and variable amounts may also be obtained, if the requirements established for this purpose are met.

For the awarding of the scholarship it is necessary to prove administrative residence in the Valencian Community and not to exceed the income thresholds established by the call, as well as to comply with the general and academic requirements. The scholarship consists of the exemption from the payment of fees for the provision of university academic services (tuition fees), for subjects enrolled in first and second enrollment.
The Universitat Politècnica de València offers various scholarships or grants such as social action grants, canteen grants or collaboration training grants. There are also grants for sportsmen and women.
This link brings together all types of calls for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students: mobility grants, collaboration grants, research grants, internship grants, course grants…
Scholarships for the Master’s Degree in Design Engineering
Students of the Master’s Degree in Design Engineering can apply for different scholarships and grants to finance their studies, offered by public bodies, the university itself or other entities. The main scholarship possibilities are listed below:
- Official scholarships from the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MEFP): As the MUID is an official master’s degree, students can apply for the general master’s degree scholarship awarded annually by the MEFP. This scholarship (of a general nature) covers tuition fees and may include amounts for income, change of residence, academic excellence, etc., depending on the situation of each student.
- Grants from the Generalitat Valenciana / autonomous entities: The Valencian Community or other autonomous regions may offer specific grants for postgraduate studies, such as salary scholarships linked to academic excellence or complementary grants for international mobility.
- Grants for collaboration in departments: The Ministry and the UPV call for grants for final year undergraduate or master’s degree students, aimed at initiation in research tasks in university departments.
- UPV’s own scholarships and study grants: The UPV has internal scholarship programs, such as the Excellence Grants for top students.
- Company scholarships and university-industry chairs: Some companies or foundations offer specific scholarships for studies related to design and engineering.
- University income loans: Although they are not non-refundable grants, the Ministry and some entities offer loan programs to master’s degree students under advantageous conditions.
- Additionally, foreign students can seek support through organizations in their home countries (government scholarships, Erasmus Mundus programs, etc.).
In summary, although the master’s degree is fee-paying (with public prices stipulated per ECTS credit), there are multiple ways of financing and scholarships to alleviate the economic cost. The combination of scholarships from the Ministry, grants from the UPV and possible remuneration for internships or projects allows many students to study the MUID with less financial effort.
Pre-registration process
Pre-registration is the procedure used to order all the applications received by each university master’s degree, according to the access requirements that have been established and the evaluation of the merits presented by each applicant. It is a procedure that, at the Universitat Politècnica de València, is carried out through an online application and with a different (longer) deadline for students from outside the European Union. Those interested in applying for a place in this university master’s degree will find below the step-by-step instructions for pre-enrolment: deadlines, fees, documents, regulations…

Admission to the MUID is done through the pre-registration process established for university master’s degrees. Those interested must formalize their application for a place through the UPV’s online pre-enrollment platform within the established deadlines. In general terms, the procedure is as follows:
- The UPV opens telematic pre-registration for its official master’s degrees in several phases throughout the academic year prior to the start of the master’s degree. Students have different pre-enrollment phases (0 to 3). Each of them, with specific pre-enrollment dates and a student profile, will be published on the UPV website.
- The candidate must access the UPV student services portal (usually through the link “Preinscripción Máster UPV” available on the official website of the UPV or the Generalitat Valenciana) and fill in the application form, selecting the Master’s Degree in Design Engineering as the desired option. It may be possible to order several master’s degree options by preference in the same application.
- Along with the form, the required documentation must be attached in digital format: ID/Passport, university degree or receipt, academic transcript, curriculum vitae, language certificates or other merits (as indicated in the admission criteria), and any other document that the pre-enrollment application requests. In the case of students about to finish the degree, a declaration of being in the process of obtaining the degree can be presented (following the regulations that even allow conditional admission if there are less than X credits left to finish).
- After the deadline for the pre-enrollment phase, the Academic Committee of the master’s degree evaluates the applications and the lists of those admitted, on the waiting list or excluded are published on the official dates (indicated in the UPV admission calendar). This information is usually available on the same pre-enrollment platform or is notified by e-mail to applicants.
- Admitted candidates must then confirm their intention to enroll and make the official registration on the established dates (normally July for the ordinary phase, or in September if they were admitted in the later phase). Registration is also online, although ETSIADI usually provides face-to-face assistance if needed.
It is important to follow the deadlines and procedures published each academic year. Detailed information on the pre-enrollment and enrollment calendar, as well as access to the pre-enrollment application, can be found on the UPV website (section Student Services > Official Masters > Pre-enrollment) and on the information page of the master’s degree itself. If the applicant has any doubts or needs guidance during the process, he/she can contact the ETSIADI Secretary’s Office or the postgraduate unit, who will guide him/her through the steps to follow.
In summary, the admission process to MUID is online, is competitive if demand exceeds the number of places, and is subject to strict deadlines. It is recommended to gather the necessary documents and accreditations in advance, and to complete the application at the earliest possible stage to increase the chances of being admitted, given that the number of places is limited.
